it does look like it could be on the other side of the motorway as the flash going off as you describe doesn’t tie up with gathering information on your car.
What this thread has made me aware of, and to pay attention to, is what Peter has pointed out that the smart motorway cameras are live all of the time. I stupidly thought they were only operational when there was a change/restriction being displayed. Thank Christ I live in rural Scotland and my nearest motorway is 75 miles away
