Because I am told I have no "fashion sense"

After 4½ years of owning the E89 it is time for a change, don’t ask me why, I suppose I am just not used to having a car for so long! I still love the car so have come to the conclusion that the only car I can replace it with is another Z :driving: There are some great deals out there and the best is on the 35iS.

Everyone I speak with tells me I have no fashion sense :o (they are probably right) so I am worried that I will end up with the wrong colour scheme and the interior will clash, etc.

Although I do not have may posts on the forum I do come on regular and appreciate all the comments. Are you willing to configure the car for me? I would also like your thoughts on options…
Pretty damn sure that I will be having PDC, cruise and heated seats.
Not sure about how the Bluetooth works on the newer cars, Apparently it is included; but does that give voice control capabilities? I certainly want to be able to answer calls whilst driving however never need to make calls and if I did I would pull over.
What about satnav? £2k is a huge amount to pay for a screen, but my thoughts are that the car would certainly be more desirable with the nav when I come to sell 5 years from now.

All thoughts gratefully appreciated

My wife's Mazda has voice control and it's awful - total waste of time. can't recognise anything correctly. Tried it about 3 times but never used it again
No idea what the BMW version is like...

The E89 you have now has bluetooth that you can make and answer calls whilst driving!
Easy to pair up, just a pain the arse using the voice control, it never works as it should.

Regarding colour combo's it's all down to your taste.
Personally I'd go black leather as it goes with everything and doesn't look dirty like the cream (which looks lovely when new). I'm not a fan of the red as it looks too orange, and the walnut can look a bit light (needs to be a richer darker colour IMO, but having said that it looks good with Mineral Grey and Black).
I've had two E89's my first in space grey and currently Titanium Silver which some people would say was boring but I've liked both colours. The Melbourne Red looks lovely and so does the Mineral Grey and Valencia Orange (Just don't go for yellow or common white!! :stir: )
Option wise, 19'' wheels was a must for me as it looks so much better and not much difference in ride quality to the 18''. Upgrade the stereo as the standard one is a little weak, heated seats, comfort pack is worth having too. I don't have sat nav, just use my iPhone much cheaper!

Just my two penneth worth, probably upset a few owners, never mind!!

If I were to order one now, i'd have:

Black or Mineral Grey with Red Leather
Heated Seats
Wind Deflector
19" 326M alloys
M-Sport package
PDC
Extended Bluetooth (the one where you can play music over bluetooth)
Sat Nav/I-Drive
Uprated Stereo system

Think that would do it for me.

Agree with this, but add in cruise. + I-drive adds MUCH more than Nav. I think it's a must.

Mine is common white as Lux has mentioned I still love it. I have had mine for nearly 2 years and I will be looking to probably get another one with similar spec or better later this year :D

Heated seats, sat nav, PDC front and rear along, cruise controlalong with an upgraded sound system is a must have for me

This is what I would end up driving if I was to buy new and I had plenty of spare funds; mybmw.co.uk/w9y0b9g5

If I wanted to keep costs down I would end up with this; mybmw.co.uk/p6s7i5s7

I love the orange but the graphite colour comes close second!
The package the orange colour adds makes the interior look awesome.

Current car is black with cream leather and I swore that I would never have that combination in the future; but the more I look at the other colours the more I come back to black with beige, or deep sea blue with beige. I'm not so worried by the light interior as I continuously clean the car. I do agree with lux that the red looks too orange.

So, assuming I do go with a dark exterior with a light interior, what do you think of the interior trim - I currently have aluminium and I am just not convinced with that.

19" wheels, are you sure? Ride is already pretty harsh, current model does not have sport suspension, would that make it better or worse?

I already have nearly £12k off the list and I am going to another dealer tomorrow to see if I can better. All that means is that I do have a bit of spare money if any extra is really felt to be important. Still not convinced by the sat nav; but if it will make resale easier in 5 years might be worth putting in

I suggest that maybe play in a car with the I drive to decide. I really like it:

Nav, (with weather and integrated traffic and re-route)
Points of interest etc
Internet
Connected drive
Office / text message read aloud
Vehicle status etc etc
DVD player (for sitting in traffic jams!)

Didn't go with the sat nav on my new 35i think its a fecking rip off

What colour did you go for? Are you putting the BBS's on it?

Oh definitely a rip off, although it does give a lot more than just the nav
May sound a crazy reason to install, IMO when I finally sell, it would go much easier

Valencia orange with black roof and 19'' alloys :driving:
Think the wifey is going to claim the BBS alloys to use as winters on her 3 series ( if they fit )

Can see the sense in it mate but I'm on a pcp and will probably hand the car back after 4 years and move on if BMW haven't come up
with a replacement for the E89

Interior colour? Interior trim?

Regarding the interior there's a must have option with the valencia orange the name of I don't remember but
its basically black seats with a central orange stripe

Not a common colour on the 35is however is the colour that Eastern have up for sale be it mineral white.

If your going for a new 35is you'll need to be quick as Rumour has it they cease production on it from August.

I have to say that although I don't use the Satnav and my other half playing about with in drives me mental! I do like it and it's a very nice touch. It defo would make the car more appealing to buyers in years down the line. I've every option apart from the heaters steering wheel and the TV tuner but can't actually see the use for that....a bit like the idrive playing DVDs, looks smart but totally useless.

Isn't it pure traction design?

God I need to get out more.

Why don't you think about what you want and then post up here and people can comment on their opinion of any No No's?

That way you get to select the car according to your own taste and style and have some input to make sure you don't pick anything which could be a big issue come resale.

IMO if you are specifying a new car, some of the fun should be your own personality and input into the design to get exactly what YOU want. The deep sea blue and cream I think is lovely but perhaps would not suit a person in their 20's for example. . .

In terms of options, I think that is something which is once again a lot about personal choice. I would always want a top spec hi-fi for example but a lot of people consider this a total waste because they would never really listen to music in the way I do in a car. . .

Nav would definitely help resale and you would get a fair amount of the investment back IMO.
