Good price well done. A nice reward Chris for your endeavours over the last few months
Cheers mate! But the reward is all Betty's!

Worrying; sounds like your living vicariously through your car (sorry - through Betty)

Well, not being married and having no kids, no kids that i know of at least, leaves me with the relative but somewhat superfluous freedom to lavish attention on the most inanimate objects currently in my posession.
A poor substitute admittedly, but deserved all the same.

oh those.
no.

I was wondering the same thing too? Thanks for clarifying Sangbleu!
Are they necessary? ...I haven't noticed anyone mention these before?
With them applied they prevent the boot mech from allowing the bootlid to come too close to the rear hardtop window.
Without them applied it doesnt make a substantial difference lol
Checked my clearance with bootlid fully open and although it's close- 5mm or so, doesnt give me any cause for concern.

Think I'll fabricate my own... just incase it's an issue for me. Better safe than sorry!
Not ever heard of rear windscreen replacements but I'm sure it's expensive!

If you manage to build one yourself could you please share pictures?

So I've been a thrutching and a fettling all day trying to get rid of the windnoise from this roof with only marginal success.
It's better than it was driving back from collecting it - that was almost like having the bleedin' window open at motorway speeds!

So I suppose it's a case of trying every trick in the book as I'm obviously one of the unlucky ones for which it's not been instantly quiet and serene in the cabin while driving?
cj10jeeper and firebobby have been really helpful and I might take you up on that offer phil... thx guys.

I used a variety of different materials including even some pilfered material from a job at the nuclear installation here in Holland (very naughty, it was about €1000/metre!) . It was specially developed for its' gamma radiation containment and longevity properties. It's basically a removable mastic hollow beading used in 'hot cells' at the primary gamma radiation windows, mainly to contain alpha particles.
That didn't work but at least I might be ok for radiation leaks

What I actually found most effective was cut-up bike innertubes folded and squished into the large gap of the windscreen, with the roof seam sitting inside this. It's reduced noise by about oh I'd say 40-50% overall. A big improvement but not ideal.

Should have taken some piccies but I'll be cracking on again tomorrow if the rain holds off, will take some then.

Got a lot of admiring glances and nice comments from passers-by however while I was busy with it. Silver linings.
:)

Have you tried this?
Yes I've used that Sang many thanks!
Very good for clarity on what's required to adjust.
I've adjusted the rear points to 7mm on the right and 4mm on the left as the front left corner was higher than the right side.
It's helped a lot but hasnt solved the problem of windnoise.
The seal is a poor design which doesnt snug-up as good as it could do, hence creating wind-resistance surfaces which diminishes laminar flow and introduces turbulence, resulting in noise. (I worked on the Typhoon fighter for BAE lol. no really!)

Could the seals have anything to do with a time element? Deforming from their "supposed to be" position? From what it sounds like your main issue is the windscreen to roof seal? Or is it also from around the windows?

Also sounds like you've worked on some pretty cool projects! Typhoon fighter and a nuclear power plant?? 8)

Yeah Kis, all rubber deforms and degrades over time due to different reasons.
One of the reasons why this mastic stuff for the gamma windows I managed to, kof, recover was so expensive is because its' operational lifetime was guaranteed for 20 years.
I'm going to try firebobbys suggestion of using some (much cheaper) weatherproof strip which he's had success with. It's deformable due to being hollow but a bit better than the crappy stuff I've already tried.

It seems as though the roof itself or the cars' own geometry might be a bit off however as no matter how many adjustments I've made I can't get the left leading edge to sit symmetrically with the right side. Ho hum.

The Typhoon project was amzing to be involved in. I used to time my BAE Warton visits to coincide with test-flight rollouts. Saw one barrel down the runway in a ball of flames once after a failed takeoff (control surface failure). Pilot ejected safely but it's a sight and sound I'll never forget!

Nuclear projects less spectacular though no less a challenge and somewhat regretful to have been involved in many Sellafield projects, predominantly SIXEP and MOX.
That place is going to be costing taxpayers for years to come!

Thought I'd keep you all updated with my efforts. So was wondering round the stores when I realised that we've got odds and sods of cable left over. So what I chose was some 4core 2.5mm in the end. I cut a section of this off and then cut further sections off to fit the car. Don't have any details with me but it was around 15mm lengths.

More or less like so.

Now after I did this I experimented with a few things. I was going to add another layer to help buffer the hinge mechanism. I also spent ages trying to core out the inside of the rubber sheathing. Obviously I can't clamp the rubber as this distorts the shape etc, etc. In the end I found I could wedge the thing on. I put a bit of WD on and pushed it on.

I found this okay, but didn't prevent the lid from opening as much as I would have liked. Many people have said that it may not even be necessary but I'd like to air the side of caution. If for some reason the lid was pulled up with an excessive force or was pushed on suddenly when open I'd like to think I'd have taken enough precautions to save my rear windscreen from damage.

So the following pictures show the boot mechanism followed by the respective gaps they leave. Obviously with the first picture there is no rubber so the gap is so small you may think that the boot is touching the screen. I can assure you it's not. The gap is however like I said extremely small. I've tried to keep the camera at the same angle also.

Next shows just rubber.

Now while this may seem like a lot of rubber it also flexes and therefore compresses quite a bit. Again I was unhappy and thought I could do better... So...
