Back box modification - With pics.

You will 100% want to cut some slots like you have said. Otherwise it will be really loud and not the nicest sound.

Looks like your doing really well on this. Keep up the updates

Subbed 'cause the engineer in me loves to see some modding going on, but this is above my skillset. Hope the end result's worth the effort you're putting in Ducklakeview

Ok..

Access made a bit easier, thanks to plasma cutter - These things cut stainless like it is paper..

You have some very useful neighbours

He comes in handy :D

He owns a transport company that takes disabled children to schools across Merseyside. Having a fleet of around 60 vehicles, there's not much he doesn't have.. It's his Snap On Modis that I borrow.

So you've ended up making a straight through?!?

Surely that will be a bit OTT, or did you cut some slots in the flexi pipes?

All that wadding won't do much if the pipe runs straight through.

There are the original slots in the inlet pipes, and I've also put a couple in where the new pipes meet the tailpipes.

Ah yes, the angle on the pictures doesn't show that you still have the first set of slots.

Should make quite a difference what you've done, fingers crossed it's what you're after. :D

Cool it will be on this afternoon then

Afraid not - In one of our shops 0900-2230 today, which I'm pretty glad about as the A/C is working wonders for my sore head..

Welded the box back up last night, so it is ready to fit, but will be tomorrow afternoon now.

Got a decent SPL app for my phone, so I'll do measurements and a video before/after.

[ref]Machine monkey[/ref], as an aside Mat, these plasma cutters are bloody unbelieveable.. So much so that I've just ordered myself one of the same ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322195052294?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Something else to hide away from SWMBO until it gets a couple of scratches and a decent coating of dust then?

I want to get one of these but I'm not sure how I could hide the purchase...
I'm almost certain she'd notice if she saw the car hovering above the driveway

Ok, so I finished this today...

Decided to cut off the jointing pieces that had been welded onto the modified box, as the angle want quite right, and it was stressing the mounts. Used the 49.5mm sleeves from ECP, which fitted perfectly. Also gave the mounting rubber retaining bolts a good clean and coat with copaslip in case I ever want to take them off again. It was easier to cut the pipes with the plasma and unbolt the mounts, then transfer them to the new box.

Box removed and pipes cut :?

I BLOODY LOVE IT! I'd say it is 50-75% louder than std on start up, but not really that much louder when driving gently, but open the taps and it roars like a supercar, but with ZERO drone, and just the right amount of pops and farts on the overrun without it being offensive!

I really cannot believe how good it sounds!

My best mod to date by far!!!

Got a chance to use my "ramp mate" extensions, as not had the Zed up on them as it way too low. These are excellent! £12 delivered from Ebay.. The Zed flies up them.. Highly recommended.

OMG!

That sounds epic!!! Make me one!!! :headbang:

I'm thinking of offering this on an exchange basis..

ie, I send out a modded box complete with fitting clamps and you cut your old one off and send it back to me for me to mod for the next person...

I could also offer a fitting service where I replace yours with a pre modded box and keep yours to mod..

Need to gauge interest and work out a price. Bearing in mind that performance boxes for the Zed are silly money...
