Will be starting it tomorrow, as I've just picked up my Ebay bargain of the week...

A Milwaulkee 355mm cut off saw, used ONCE and they guy was "afraid" of it! Cost him £220 last year, came with 5 discs, manual, receipt and 2yr warranty - all for the princely sum of £60 :oops:

So the cost of this job so far has risen to £110, still cheap I think...
My 'Man Maths' always says that you shouldn't include the cost of the tools as they're going to be useful for something else in future... at least that's what I say to SWMBO :whistle:

Quite true, Wifey said last night "no doubt you will be selling that "thingy" once you've used it once?" Yeah right, it will become a part of my collection :D

Having looked at this again this morning, I think cutting and welding the bends is going to be a right PITA!

So, with that in mind, I'm thinking of using some lengths of this stuff;

From here; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Any-Size-T304-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust-Polylock-Flexible-Tube-Hose-With-Collars-/131335394556?var=&hash=item1e943314fc:m:m8hXn-nfn4iQ0enk7ha4NSg

Anyone used it? I'm thinking it will still be ok to cut the slots on the ends.

Thoughts?

Hi Mke

Looking good so far mate :thumbsup:

I ended up using some flexible s/s pipe from eBay. Because both sets of pipe go in opposite directions is a real pain linking them up. Get yourself some exhaust putty too.

I chopped all the bits out in the red square and then joined the pipes up. Make sure you keep the slotted bit which the yellow arrow is pointed at. The slots are the bit that gets rid of the drone.!!

I've just ordered a 250mm and a 500mm length of those flexi's above in 55mm OD, thinking that they will easily slip over the 50mm tail pipes and inside the 60mm inlets. I'll be seam welding it all, so no exhaust putty in sight, although I'll probably have to put a couple of access holes in the underside of the box to get access to weld the undersides of the pipes.

@ Dukla and Yorkie and whoever else has modded their backbox, would you be able to do a exchange program???

Where we pay you 2x the price (price being for materials and your time), you send us a modded backbox, and we send you our original backbox, when you receive our original back box you refund us 1x the price, then you use that original backbox for the next customer?

Make sense? Could work out quite well =)

I'd have been tempted to just run 2 perforated tubes and pack all around them.

That would probably give less noise than a standard box. Most "normal" car exhausts I have dissected have a single peforated tube running end to end, surrounded by noise absorbing material.

TBH, for the time taken, multiplied by what I earn (I don't lose out as the shop is still open and making money whilst I am tinkering) I don't think it would be worthwhile.

Whilst I could easily purchase an aftermarket box, or even pay someone to do this, I prefer to do it myself. I don't like anyone working on my vehicles, other than me :)

No no I think there's been a slight confusion, I mean we send you our backboxes and we pay you to modify it for us :)

Good heaven's man, how did the cat get in there?

Ok,

Back to this, made some access cuts;

And then realised is gonna be a PITA getting around those pipes inside the box with a cutting disc, so quick phonecall to my neighbour before he left his place, and he's bringing me home a little something that will make the job easier..

Watch this space.. :thumbsup:
