AUX DIY

Hi - new to this forum - I'm trying to fit an Aux-in to a 2006 Z4M Coupe with SatNav, BT & BMW fitted Ipod Cable and am ordering the cable kit from fruity. The problem I'm having is the short length of the cables behind the head unit mean that I can't pull it very out at all and have had to resort to an illuminated mirror on a telescopic handle to view the connectors, making it very difficult to release them, even with a hand up through the lower access panel - is this normal ?

Are you sure the bulk of the cables are not caught else where? I find when pushing mine back in I have to push them out of the way, which in turn causes them to go behind a part deep in the dash. I then have to pull it out upon removal.

Cables should allow you to get easy pull out access, unless someone's butchered them!

Hi,

I've bought a cable from fruity cables and am attempting to fit it.

I've got the vent off and radio out, I'm just not sure where I need to actually put the wires! Car is a 2007 e86 z4 with sat nav. I've attached pictures of what the back of my radio unit looks like. (I pulled out the black clip which I am holding in the second pic, it was plugged in next to the white coloured one).

Thanks for any assistance

The photos are tiny, I can't make it out.

But, the cable from fruity should have a connector on the back and you just plug it in, no need to do anything with the pins. Not sure how you've got to that stage...

Im trying to fit the fruity cable into the back of my headunit. (The one with the mini satnav screen) i need to know if I should plug the fruity cable's 3 pins into the white or black connector block. Annoyingly in both blocks the corrent pins are empty.

Edit. Its the black one. All sorted.

Hi guys!

I thought I should make this clear.

If you have a standard unit it comes with a 12 plug. Plug and play as they say.

If you have Navigation, Bluetooth or even both I supply with BMW Crimps, these go into the ore existing block.

White/red to holes 3&4
Black to 10

We will always help BUT sometimes cannot respond instantly due to life etc.

Be safe guys and gals

So I've took of the vent, removed the plug and replaced with my aux lead plug and it's not coming up with Aux option when I press mode button.

Please help

Hello I have 2006 Z4M Roadster with Sat Nav, BT, DSP, phone, CD changer .. I am planning to same, were you able to make AUX work? i bought the cable from Amazon installed correctly but don't see AUX option when pushed mode button. Any cable links that may work? appreciate anyone's response.

From memory, it has to be a specific cable, a resistor (or similar!) that bridges 2 of the pins to tell the stereo there is AUX connected, then display it as an option.

"Fruity" used to sell the correct one in the UK, if he's about, he might be able to help, not sure he ships to US though.

@ SamZ4M thank you, i ordered the one with resister in it, it arriving tomorrow will try, thank you.

Hey folks! I am posting regarding my AUX Mod.

So I understand there are 3 different head units on these cars, mine is from 2003, 3L. The previous owner removed the head as it was not working, I bought now a BMW Business CD head and want to add the AUX port. This is the one I bought.

Mine already has the 3 cables, and it seems to be integrated to the wiring from the factory, leading me to believe that it has the CD Changer.

Who uses that CD Changer anyway these days, so I thought about deleting the CD deck / changer unit, where ever that maybe located (in the trunk I suppose). and cutting this port and adding the resistor and capacitor combo as seen here (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66819).

The red should be the right channel, blue left and the other wire would be ground.

1x 300kΩ 0.6W Resistor
2x 0.22uf Capacitors

red wire->cap->resistor->cap->blue wire

Do I have this right? Then the BMW Business CD head unit should automatically be able to play AUX. Let me know if I got it all wrong or any tips, appreciated.

So Just FYI.

I decided to buy some ready made parts, from Amazon.

Bought myself this AUX Converter, seems to be beefy, and has a cap already inside. so must be a good one. has good reviews. And just incase there is some ground loop noise etc, I bought myself also this Ground Loop Suppressor.

1. Keenso Car AUX Adapter Cable, Car Radio Female AUX Adapter Cable for E85 / E86 2003-2008, E83 2004-2010
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B07MTYZ23Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

2. FeinTech ATG00101 Audio Ground Loop Isolator Filter Suppressor Noise 3.5 mm Jack Stereo Cable, Black
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B076JGVJGP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Total Costs were under 25 Euros. Will make my own topic once I am done and report if it works!

Also found this fellows video quite informative. Condenses it all into one.

Is AUX required? I ask as it's sub-par audio quality and a pain to use. If you can, use Bluetooth BlueMusic module which is plug and play (I think the AUX ones are too).

That black connector comes out the white connector and you replace it with the new 'dongle'

Thanks Sam! So I went ahead, canceled my order with the AUX, and ordered the BlueMusic Module, cost me around 45 Euros. I was originally going to connect the AUX port coming from my android auto setup and hardwire it, but you got me convinced.. :D

This is what I ordered
BlueMusic Bluetooth Hands-Free Music Adapter Compatible with BMW E39 E46 E53 X5 Z4 E83 X3 - Mini R50 R52 R53 with Boost CD/Navigation Radio Flat Pin 40pin Quadlock New Generation Radio

https://www.amazon.de/-/en/BlueMusic-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Adapter-Compatible-black

Has some 1116 Reviews and a 4.4 Start Rating on amazon, so lets see! Also plus point, it gives me the ability to use a mic!

Nice work!

Should be an easy install as you've been back there before...

Hey Sam, So I received Bluetooth adapter Blue Music, I plugged it in, I did remove the white connector and swapped it to the new adapter.

I dont see the AUX being activated, no aux option, only CD and Radio. So I am able to connect to the bluetooth itself but there is no music playing.

It seems I did have some kind of a CD Changer or such in the back of the car, it had a navigation gps thing as well of course, all of those obsolete tech was removed by the last owner. I am wondering, what are my options? I did some reading up and some one in this forum was saying that they had the same issue and the owner told them to exchange it for a different adapter that plugs in where the CD is.

Any tips appreciated.
