Auto wipers on off ?

Hi if you enter the last 7 digits of your VIN on one of the BMW VIN decoder websites it will tell you exactly what your car has/hasn't got. Look for code 521 rain sensor.

I deff have auto wipers with a A on button but no led.
I used today and was switching off when rain stopped then re starting later in rain.
I have auto lights.

I hate my bloody auto wipers because they never wipe when I want them to, I wish I could switch it off and just have a variable intermittent wipers.

Picking up on this thread, I have auto wipers (with the green LED and rain sensor). Do you really have to press this button in every time you get in the car? If so, is there any way to set this on as default?

To answer in order....
Yes
&
No

You have to press it to activate it, there is no way around it.

Adding to the 'default off' theme, I found out only yesterday that the PDC defaults to 'off' unless you select reverse, when it then comes on automatically, but then switches off over 10mph ish when driving forward. I thought there was something wrong with the front ones when I parked in a car park. :headbang:
Every other car I've had with auto wipers and F&R PDC have always been 'on' unless you turn them off.
And the irony is that the 'start-stop' defaults to 'on' so you have to physically turn the bloody thing off. :headbang:

Carly can code the stop/start to default to its last selected state, much less annoying

Coming into this thread late but as previously said, forget the stalks and led light stuff, if you haven't got the rain sensor on the windscreen even if you have the auto wipers facility, it won't work without the sensor. I only know cos when my windscreen was broken and had to be replaced, I noticed the price and queried it (Even though I wasn't paying) It was explained that it was the fitted sensor that hiked the price up.

Only the sensor mount (the purple coloured lens and translucent sticky) is part of the windscreen, the actual sensor unclips from it, but they must be making it part of it just to hyke the price up even more..
Now I've just done a quick on-line quote (all from the same company) for these screens and surprisingly the one with the Rain Light Sensor was cheaper than one without!! And the one with the RLS had 2 options, with equipment or without, so presumably that means with the RLS attached or just the mount.

And BMW never sold the Auto Wipers and Auto Lights separately, they are part and parcel of the same package, so if you have one then you have both. Checking the options list and the VO coding list there is not one without the other, as it's called the "Rain Light Sensor" for a reason and there is only one VO code which is 521.... but then I've already given all this information 8)

The Font of Knowledge clarifies the position…

As a side note, a friend asked whether it was relative easy to retrofit an auto dim/dip mirror…?

Are we talking auto-dip lights or auto-on lights here??
