Auto close drivers window issue

Hi
I’m scratching my head wondering WHY the drivers door window will open and close on one touch of the switch but my passenger one will only open. If I want to close it, I have to keep the switch up :x . Does anyone have an answer?

I don’t know about the E85/86 but on the E89 if the battery has been disconnected for any reason you have to reset the windows. This is how you do it on mine so it may be worth a shot:
1. turn the ignition on (without starting car)
2. put both windows to their fully down position (using both left and right window switches, obviously)
3. press both left and right switches down for 15 seconds
4. straight after the 15 seconds pull and hold both left and right window switches upwards to raise windows to fully closed
5. without releasing the switches, when windows are fully up count another 15 seconds
6. release switches, and reset should be complete.

Do you mean the passenger window? The early cars didn’t have one touch up on the passenger side. Although some folks have coded it to work since.

Yes sorry, I meant the passenger one (now edited). Why only have one touch open/close on one side??

Hi
Thanks for replying. I’ve not disconnected the battery and it’s working fine. I’ve tried your advice to no avail :(

As Wondermike states, it may need coding to be able to do it but I don’t understand why BMW would only allow it on one side!!

I don’t think it was ever really established. Both were one touch on my 2005 so they had sorted it by that time.

Ah well it was worth a shot. Yes, it does seem a bit strange that BMW would do that.

Thanks for the link👍🏽

Not that it means much as it may have been modified by a previous owner (unlikely, as nothing else has been altered) but mine is auto up and down, both sides, and it's a 2004.

My passenger window wont auto up either tried reset to no avail 2003 model,my 2005 model had it both sides and would always reset after any battery issues,

it should just be a case of hold button at top for a few seconds the best way to know your doing it right, disconnect battery do the side that works, then do it on other, if it still doesnt work could be like mine was faulty motor. if its that it can be unbolted without taking regulator out

my 03 needed coding but has passenger one touch, if you open the door the one touch doesn't work, only works when door is closed
