Hi guys, I had the battery disconnected the other day and when reconnected to a new one the windows wont auto close "they go down ok" and wont move when the roof is put up - this is driving me mad! Ive read some of the threads on here about resetting the windows with holding them down for 5 seconds etc, does this really work?? Ive tried quite a few of these and nothing.

I dont want to hand money over to the stealers if there's an easy way to get this working again... :headbang:

1. ignition on (last position before starting but I'm not sure does it really matter...)
2. Press and hold window down. When window reaches the bottom, push the button 3 times (1 elephant, 2 elephant, 3 elephant)
3. Press and hold window up. When window reaches the top, pull the button 3 times (1 elephant, 2 elephant, 3 elephant)
4. then do the 15 cm lowering and closing as I wrote earlier (actually I tested it again and now I lowered it around 3 cm and it worked, so it propably doesn't matter is it 5 cm or 12 cm :) ).

Good luck :thumbsup: !

When I did mine I did the following;

1. Pressed the button to lower the window (with ignition on) and held for 3-5 seconds. After window stopped moving.

2. Then lifted the button to raise the window and held again. When window at highest point.

That sorted it for me!

Try the comfort opening/closing via the key as well!

Nick why did you disconnect battery anyway? Because if it was to change it what I do is connect a charger to the battery (jump start) posts under the bonnet, this means nothing is reset!

I didnt know you could do that and to be honest i didnt know disconnecting the battery to change to a new one causes problems - ive not had this with any other car before. I'll be very careful next time!

After work, i'll try the other option of simply holding the button at the top and bottom to reset.

Ive spoken with BMW and the window reset procedure is right, though ive just spent 20 minutes "resetting" both windows and still nothing - apparently its a 30 second job.

I dont understand what is going on with them? Is it worth disconnecting the battery again and re-trying it or am i doing something wrong. I can see this getting expensive...

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have this bookmarked now as I have had to do it a couple of times recently and it is one of those little PITA things you do, then forget :thumbsup:
