Attack on cyclist

Having been a cyclist and car driver. The van driver is completely out of order! There is never a need for attacking anyone like that! Cyclist do seem to think the Highway Code applies to them!!

Eh? Last time I checked it did! Infact It applies to everyone.

My mistake doesn't apply to them. In Oxford lights are not needed, traffic lights are just for cars and pavements are cycle lanes!!

I did wonder. It's the same the world over! I get abuse as a pedestrian crossing with the green man because I'm in the wrong for almost being hit by a cyclist. I like to film them, they don't like it.......well don't do it.

Girl at work had a fine, I thought she had been given yet another fine for jumping a red light on her bike, but no it was a bus lane fine which she was fuming about but she actually had the cheek to say that jumping red lights is all part of the fun and she didn't mind the fine! Sorry? See the financial penalty is doing its job, not! And she's always complaining she's skint! She was once late for a meeting cause she jumped a red light right in front of a police car and actually argued why she was right to do so. Idiot.

If you think cyclists are bad in the UK, go to Europe !
They have the law on their side I believe.

I think it's the gallows if you skittle one - irrespective of blame.

A group is trying to get this as law in Scotland. There are probably more to lobby against it given the attitude of a lot of the cyclists on city streets.

I believe the UK is one of only 5 in he EU who don't have this law, so if they do implement this does that mean that a cyclist is held responsible if they hit a pedestrian? Even if they walk out in front of them on a red man for example?

I hope that they are forced to have a third part insurance!

+ 1, but impractical. It would cost more than many a bike. as it's usually the less experienced road users riding

We had to have three panels repaired and a new wing mirror, after a paper boy rode into our first car, whilst parked outside our house. Some years on, MrsG, reversed over a paper boy's bike, layed on the floor, in a parking bay and we ended up buying him a new bike. No justice. So yes the system in skewed, but I can't see how you place the responsibility on the cyclist, without imposing the sort of penalty that would drive, (pun intended), them all off the road and the pollution's in Downing street, love a green mode of transport.

The indicator is on at the start of the video and as said, even if it wasn't you would have to assume the van will turn left and therefore stay slightly behind it. The van driver is on his phone though which makes my blood boil (and the cyclist from the sounds of things).

If the van had turned left it would have been a lesson learned (hopefully without any lasting injuries) but the way the van runs the cyclist out of road is completely unacceptable, let alone the follow up attack! It will be interesting to see what charges are brought against this oath.

Van driver clearly a nasty piece of work and should be arrested for GBH.

He' ll attempt to do it to the wrong person one day and get a good smacking!
There's always somebody tougher.

Considering he didn't commit GBH or ABH for that matter, that would be tough. He should however be prosecuted for Dangerous driving and sued by the cyclist for common assault. The van driver lost his rag with the cyclist and cut him up. He left a good width from the curb until right at the last minute and came across the cyclist.

Either way, I would have waited for the cyclist to make his mind up or waited till there wasn't any oncoming traffic and overtook him. No patience from either party it seems.

Also, I though there was legislation to punish people for road rage incidents.

H.

Try driving in NL with all the bikes, and they are kamikazi as well going straight across roads without looking as they are always in the right as Ronk said.

I needed 10 pair of eyes last weekend over there.

I also found them to be aggressive and blinkered.
It's even worse for us who normally drive on the left !

Oh and those cycle lanes that seem to cut over road junctions

Fortunately, the short life span of cyclists riding in such a fashion must have rendered your quest to acquire 10 pairs of eyes somewhat shorter than anticipated...out of interest, what did you want them for? :?

In NL they ride bolt upright and seem to look neither left nor right !

I once overtook a cyclist on a mountain road in Germany, slowly, ie his 5mph v my 10mph and leaving a wide gap yet still he shook his fist and was yelling !

Aggressive cyclist exist all over the place .

I value the paintwork of my X5, so was trying to avoid them, but often the junction layouts are such that they are swarming from all directions :D

Idiot A meets Idiot B & it gets ugly. The end.

I would like to say it's a few that give them a bad name but it's the majority with the minority sticking to the rules.
So one day I sat down with a traffic officer & 2 hours of commute vide (90 min of cycling & 30 min of car). We found about 40% of cyclists broke a road traffic law on the video & 70% of motorists.

As has been said "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics" :)

So, how many cyclists were there in the 90 mins, and cars in 30 minutes?

Only then are we able to get a true comparison.
