Some interesting mods already in your first instalment!

Removing the trims on the lower grilles and fitting black kidneys definitely improve the look of the front end. The more I see them the more incongruous the chrome kidney surrounds look when there is no other chrome on Z4s.

To be fair I think the silver trims are OK with colours like DSB…the chrome as you say doesn’t gel for me.

The AY and Valencia Orange as discussed really need black as the counterpoint…at least IMHO..

Looking forward to getting the rear spoiler and reverse the colours on the rear

And some gloss black door mirrors and lower front bumper section.... You know you want to....

The black mirrors that’s a definite no….but…maybe the front spoiler…I think the cut line needs to be closer to the ‘ears’..

In the photo the left hand cut line has left too much orange :tumbleweed:

now I've moved to 19" wheels there is always room for a VBBK!

That’ll cost you another pony :poke:

I’ve done the maths…the car is now going to be limited to 175mph as it will now rev out in top…so no need for the VBBK…yet..

Will you be selling the old diff? I’m looking for a donor unit to send to Birds to avoid having my car off the road for a period of time. They are quoting a longer period of time due to the machining of the crown wheel that is required.

How is the handling with all those new and very expensive parts?

Hello The Analyst…

Yes I now have the OE diff off the car..I’ll pm you a price I’m willing to offer prior to ebaying it.

I did the same thing, acquiring a 35i diff, which turns out to be unique to the E89 35i(s) and then getting Birds to inspect it and repair if required prior to machining and then Quaife fitment.

I’ve got back from a few days away so plan to pick the car up on Monday..so will do a write up once I’ve driven it for a while. :driving:

Slow progress mostly due to my tech guy having to deal with his normal detritus...snapped cam chain on BMW B47 anyone?

So prior to hand back tech guy took out for test drive..after about 500 yards went onto 4-5 cylinders..limped back..rattle from rear right..

The rattle looks like it may be suspension related..more to follow..

On opening the bonnet, the engine cam cover was seen to be firm up against the new engine cross brace..

Removing the cross brace the engine cover popped upwards..

Turns out that the new (Hella) ignition coils end rubbers are too thick for the NGK plugs and were pushing themselves off the plugs.

(Picture show 2 Hella's and one orginal)

Disappointed that 'Hella' should let the German brnad down, disappointed in myself trying to save a few pennies over NGK..

So 6 new NGK coils ordered and warranty claim at Autodoc on these Hella boys..

Yes surprised is an under statement..I now assume Hella buys them in (from China) and puts their badge on them.. :tumbleweed:

I'm so disgusted I may take my new Hella headlights of my Jeep!

Surprised that Hella should disgrace themselves like that…always best to buy direct from NGK, Bosch, Mahle, TRW tier 1 suppliers if you can, even if it’s a bit more pricey..I’ve been stung a few times..

I’d smash them as well, just to be sure

Replaced all the injectors as part of the rejuvenation / baseline program.

5 were index 9, one was index 12..BMW says you can’t mix index 12 with index 9 on the same bank of 3…heh ho..this was a car with a full maintenance record and under warranty..

Out of interest one of the index 9’s is starting to blow by the seal..end of line

Picture shows the newer index 12 as well..at front..

So slow progress..got the new NGK coils to replace the dodgy, podgy Hella coils..should be fitted on Monday...

I updated the vehicle order to remove the electronic damper option, (had a fault code and disabled sports mode warning) added the performance brake option for the 6 pot brakes, coded the new index 12 injectors with their flow rates and then uploaded the MHD Stage 2+ map which on 98 RON should be good for about 420 HP with the VSRF de-cats and Wagner EVO FMIC.

Also coded the DCT box using xHP with a stage 2 map.

After all that realised that IF you use xHP then in MHD you are supposed to code using gearbox = manual ( I guess to avoid some overlap)..so will have to re-flash the DME, after the initial flash it only takes about 5 minutes for subsequent flashes.

I'll take the car to the dyno before Christmas if possible to see how it all looks before the TTE500 turbos and other bits go on.

Took a few pictures of the wheels and brakes..looking a bit dirty so not the best looking shots..

You’re going to wonder what to do with yourself once all this kit’s been fitted & fettled! I suppose you could always drive it around

See, even a thing of beauty like an AM DB6 can be ruined by painting it yellow. Aston Martins should NOT be yellow :o
Custard should be yellow; and half of an earth sleeving. That's about it IMHO.

The "Bahama Yellow" was a Porsche derived colour - I had my Cooper S (Full Race Spec) painted with it.
In those days it was a bold statement as there didn't seem to be much choice.
