Apple Mini Event

apple have missed its estimated earnings this quarter. they say due to production costs but its believed they had to take a hit on profit margins to keep in competition. with other manufactures taking a loss on hardware to keep prices super low, how are apple ever going to compete?? they will never be able to produce market leading hardware again to compete with rival pricing :( the next few years are going to be interesting with android and Microsoft producing high quality products and awesome operating systems :fuelfire:

Many years back Apple lost a huge amount of market share due to getting too big for its boots. Its doing the same again now. The whole iPhone craze is getting boring, each looks the same as the last, with a new iPad out every 4 or 5 months now people arent bothering to upgrade, iPods are vastly overpriced now compared to other music players, and iTunes has seen competition from other cheaper markets now like Amazon.

Their bubble is starting to burst, only today I was reading their share prices have taken a hefty tumble. There is only so long you can rely on the iPhone etc to keep your company in profit. Once people start getting bored of your products because with each incarnation they are too samey, then your in trouble. I think for the past few years Apple have relied on its fanbase who will lets face it, buy anything with an Apple logo on it, whereas many of this fanbase have now moved away from Apple and realised there actually better products out there, for less outlay.

Don't you think that the iPad Mini 2 will have the retina display and therefore will be another upgrade hype?

All in the marketing I guess. The current buyers will buy one despite the inferior display as it is a new product. When generation 2 comes out, they will upgrade to have the latest with a "big" change.

Apple posted revenue of $36.0 billion and net quarterly profit of $8.2 billion, or $8.67 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $28.27 billion and net quarterly profit of $6.62 billion, or $7.05 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Apple had provided guidance for this quarter of $34 billion in revenue and earnings of $7.65 per share.

Not bad if you ask me.

Nothings ever perfect, but its still the best ecosystem for what I use so will continue to do so.

I cant be arsed pissing around swapping systems, stick with what works and enables me to do my job.

To be fair, Windows 7 is getting there. Not sure about 8 yet though!

I don't always get the fanboy tag, I buy the apple products I buy because they just work. I was an avid windows user for years and never looked twice at OSX then I had to use it in a work environment, couldn't believe how everything just worked how I wanted it to. It's not perfect, there's the odd feature windows has that OSX lacks but the rest is just worlds apart. And as for iPhone, same story, I've had the same amount of androids and blackberries as I have iPhones. Same story, software and available apps puts iOS streets ahead. I was sooo tempted to get a galaxy s3 because of the gorgeous screen. Glad I held out for iPhone 5 instead. If galaxy s3 ran iOS then I wouldn't hesitate!

Pre-ordered an iPad mini today, I’ve always like the iPad but I never bought one bc I thought it was too big; however, I am disappointed that apple didn’t make the mini with a retina display.

Having waited months for the Ipad mini announcement I'm now completely underwhelmed by it. I'd intended to buy it and give wifey my Ipad 2 but that'll only be same technology smaller screen.
Now contemplating getting the Ipad 4 or waiting for the 2nd gen of the mini that'll almost certainly have Retina and the faster processor.

Dont knock the mini till you've tried it!

I'm not interested in it, more interested in upgrading our iPad and iPad 2 to the 4th gen, but I remember when the iPad was first announced I didn't even see the point - I thought a netbook would be better. Then I went into the Apple store and saw one in the flesh and used it, and I was hooked.

The point of the mini is extra portability (I think?) so wait till you try one before deciding. Does retina really matter? The screen on the original iPad is beautiful.

Mrs B was instantly attracted to the fact she could get it in her handbag

Not sure about it needing retina for what she'll use it for, and I agree - the screen on my ipad2 is just fine :?
