Anyone recognise this Z4 driver/boy racer?

So...

you are spending 10 k for a z4 coupe

1500 pounds for suspension upgrades

2000 pounds for brake upgrades

2000 pounds for wheels and tyres

best oil, best filters

all.... so you can go 30 mph? :)

for 30- 70mph a Micra at 800 pounds will be just perfect. And if you buy a SMART car you can get the same speed feeling at 50mph :)

Quite a stupid statement really imo. One can enjoy the car without speeding.

And sure, if a driver were to partake in some fast driving, there is the care and consideration of others to consider, which the individual in question shows an utter lack of.

As pointed out by a few on PH, the frequency with which the traction control light flashes does say something too regarding the inputs of the driver.

Though I've never driven my zed in the manner in which that individual has, I think we can all agree that he would really have to be pushing the car to it's limit to manage to get the traction control to intervene so frequently.

I am not saying that this guys drives well.... but is funny to see 100 k pounds Mercedes driving on the last lane with 40 mph with a huge queue behind him. I guess that person is enjoying the car and it is not dangerous at all :)

Playing devil's advocate...

I regularly sit at 150mph on empty 3 lane motorways, and occasionally vmax the car on the same roads, and I'm still here.

Surely it can't be the fact that it was in Germany that made the speed 'safe'? If I'd had a blow-out then I'd be in the same 'trouble' had the road been in Germany or Britain?

Speed has an relationship to the amount of damage/injury caused when there is an accident, and the 'margin for error' decreases, but it's not necessarily the CAUSE of the accident - otherwise there'd be twice as many accidents on 60mph roads as on 30mph roads (and it's the other way around). There are more accidents on 30mph roads than on NSLs and motorways, and the statistics show 'speed' is not the main cause.

If you're going to crash, then I'd suggest doing it at 0mph rather than 100mph, but then I don't think anyone plans to crash on purpose anyway.

BTW, all my 'accidents' (all non-fault) have been at less than 20mph, and it was my inattentiveness/complacency due to the low speed that meant I didn't avoid the collision.

Let's hope that the lad has been reading this thread, and that we can give him some decent advice. So here's my 10-point contribution to him.
1. Don't film yourself driving on public roads so that you are not tempted to drive fast just for the camera.
2. Never try to "perform" to impress your passengers.
3. Put your mobile phone in the glovebox when you're driving.
4. Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times except for the instant when you need to change gear.
5. Indicate when you overtake.
6. When driving down a narrow lane without road markings, always make sure that your stopping distance is less than half the visible length of road in front of you.
7. When the roads are wet/damp don't drive so fast, especially on country roads, because muddy patches aren't always visible.
8. If you see your DSC light come on, don't ignore it, because it's telling you that you're on the edge of stability, and in the wet conditions in the video, it's clear that stability is considerably less than you thought it would be and much less than in dry conditions.
9. Take more pride in your driving technique rather than simply wanting to drive fast.
10. In the winter months on country roads, beware of pheasants suddenly coming out from the sides of the roads.
And to end on a positive note: it was good to see that you didn't tailgate the cars you were following before you overtook them. We've all been young once and you need a strategy to survive and live to grow older. You should always assume that there's someone driving exactly the same way as yourself coming in the opposite direction and you should constantly assess whether you can brake in time, or will you leave each other enough room to pass safely when you meet them.

I like the positive posting, exdos.

You are an easy man to like.

could I add some other critters to look out for

pedestrians
cyclists
deer
cows
horses
sheep
cats
dogs
badgers
rabbits

thanks

If you have a blow out at 100mph you are far more likely to have an accident than if you had a blow out at 30mph.

It's fairly simple, which bit do you not understand?

You may think you are a good driver, but you see professional racing drivers have crashes all the time through speed what makes you better than them?

I think your statement has to be the most stupid thing I've ever read on here, and that's saying something! (Have you seen the stuff JE posts!! )
A racing driver doesn't crash through driving to fast. The saying in the pits if you crash is "ran out of talent". This also applies to road driving. Crashes aren't caused by speeding, but by people either being idiots or not watching what they are doing.
If you have a blow out at speeds over 100mph the wobble doesn't kick in until you get down to about 70mph anyway.

I have a clean licence and 32 years no claims bonus and have drove high speed on open roads at 3.00am -4.00pm. May not be legal but neither is taking your kids out of school for a holiday or drinking a can of pop while driving. The concentration driving at speeds of 100mph or more is better than all the idiots on mobile phones. Even on hands free it's distracting. You can loose your licence for driving over 94mph and get prison for 150mph+ but get 3 points for texting while driving. F**king ridiculous. I could drive my Ford Anglia and VW Beatle at 70mph with crap tyres, no stability, no ABS, no Power steering and s**t suspension at 70mph. I can even drive my 18 tonne motor home at 70mph but 120mph on a clear motorway in my Zed or 640d is so dangerous. Some people talk bollocks and it really gets my goat.
Don't get me wrong, this young man in the video has it all wrong. Narrow roads, other cars about, never know what's around the next corner, built up areas, I'm a farmers son so I know too well even tractors could just nose out of a gateway, horses, dog walkers the list goes on. These are the idiots that give responsible hooners a bad name.

why would you buy a sport car if you are not speeding?

i saw yesterday 2 bikers both with latest R1 doing 65mph on M23... why would you buy that bike and cruise with 65mph? I guess they were in second gear all the time :)) It is all about the looks?

Because someone owns a fast car or motorcycle does not necessarily mean they shall have to drive/ride hard on every journey.

It's obvious we all have varied opinions on subject of speeding, one thing I am sure we can all agree on is that the individual in question (Original post) that his driving is not acceptable and is horrendous.

The sort of driving in that video should be saved for the track, where everyone else knows why you're there, animals and kids are well out of the way, and your fellow drivers are all going in the same direction (well, trying to anyhow! ). There should be a special driving test that you need to take before being allowed to drive a high powered car on the public highway, like there is in Australia...

It's sad to say, but any car that was bloody good when new will be a future Chavalier as soon as the price gets low enough, but I had hoped that having room for only one "homie" meant cars like the Z4 would be exempt...

I too am a new to Z4 ownership, brought about by the cheaper price of the beast these days, but I'm certainly no chav - I'm a hard working father of five whose company car is also a BMW (though not a Z sadly), so I'm bloody lucky that my better half allowed me to spend anything at all on a weekend toy! When I chose the Z I thought I'd safely gone down the non-chav route, due to it's lack of neons / nitrous sticker/ 6" tail pipe / up to four "bro" seats, and safely down the path of a classy roadster with nothing more to prove. I do hope that I wasn't wrong...

 Bro seats!

You said yourself, when the prices get low enough on sports cars the chavs will buy, simple as that. And the Z4 is certainly going that way. Just a personal bank loan for 5-6k to apply for and boom, hello Z4.

The only caveat with this is that I suspect some will steer clear of the Roadsters simply because 'hard man' image is everything to them and they couldn't be seen to drive a hairdressers type car.

I wouldn't welcome driving like that on the track. Drive like that on a track and you would be sent packing. Track days are aimed at keeping everyone safe and there is a Marshall at every corner unlike on the roads.

What a cock, feel sorry for whoever buys that Z after he's finished.

If anyone knows what area it is may be worth forwarding to a local traffic unit. Plenty of evidence there for dangerous driving and a potential ban.

I missed that quote and then saw his other one as well. Both epically stupid things to say. Yes people buy sports cars/bikes to fly around at 100mph everywhere  Yes we all drive progressively from time to time, if your logic is correct though barely any of us would have a license due to being banned. Hang on.....your not the guy in the video are you...?

Isn't the beauty of the Z4 that it is soft and tractable? I love my 3.0 for that
Don't ever buy an ///M. :D

Back to the thread. Some hightly entertaing hog wash and some good points.

I can't say I'll ever be a driving saint, I'm a scouser at heart after all. But to drive like the guy in the vid, in those conditions, is way beyond what is safe or exceptable. I like to think I have taken the time out to learn a few driving skills over the years and I can say for certain, that all the skill, fast reactions and cheecky smiles in the world, won't save that guy, when, not if, his luck runs out. Just hope it's a ditch he finds not some one else's front seat.

I take back my original track comment - you're spot on! So, when I say track... The video reminded me of watching my kids play Forza. Perhaps that's where this guy honed his skills? Or maybe his training ground is GTA - I can't see any keys in the ignition...

Maybe its time to end this thread discussion as it appears to be going around in circles and will never reach a conclusion.
May I suggest ending it by saying:

1) Some people drive fast
2) Some people don't drive fast
3) The guy in the video was driving recklessly in that particular situation

Soft and tractable as in the engine characteristics. Essentially the 3.0 is fairly low geared and can be trickled along in traffic very easily. No need to have to drive around the engine characteristics. I once had a tuned Talbot Sunbeam with a fast road cam that wouldn't give any power until 1300 rpm, would barely trickle at 1700rpm and didn't start to come alive until after 3000rpm. Driving that around a town centre was just irritating.

Does the 3.2M lack torque?

Yeah the guy in the vid is a tool. If he has seen this thread he's probably loving the attention. He also probably thinks that the way into his female passenger's knickers is via ridiculous driving
