Anyone recognise this Z4 driver/boy racer?

Does my £179 premium mean I am a 'good' driver then? :D

gotta say, sometimes I am very dumb. (and 53 yrs old)

Not as dumb as the kid in the vid though. I have never been that stupid.

Not sure how likely the outcome is if you looked at the real world stats with the formula: Younger driver + higher insurance premium = likely crash and burn. I'm guessing its a generalisation by insurance companies to make money.

But thats just my opinion of course.

This is quite interesting…

Of course we know not all 'youngsters' drive like total tools. While there are a lot of older people that do.
My 20 year old is a really sensible driver even given he only has a C1 I know he wouldn't drive like an idiot if he didn't.
He'll tell you the main reason he is careful is because when he was at school a traffic policeman came in to give them a talk. He had video & photos of young people who had been in car accidents, dead & alive. A lot of the girls were retching at some of the pics he said.
It worked tho, he said he'd never drive like an idiot after that talk. Shock tactics but it works in the majority.

maturity is achieved much later than the generally expected ages, 16, 18, 21. There are very good biological ( emotional development ) reasons to keep blokes out of fast cars until they are 25.

In my case 30.

Hmmm, I know plenty of 25+ year olds that act as though they're 15

A lot of factors come into play with this issue as has been stated by others.

One issue is experience and the ability to see ahead, potential risk - reading the road and risk assessment - so extra training for all.

No increased reaction, vision and physical ability will save someone like the young man hitting someone coming the other way when travelling at too high a speed on the single track back lane. In fact such a belief will encourage too fast a speed on the road. Reaction times and braking efficiency become factors but travelling beyond the speed in which a hazard can be seen and reacted too is questionable on a public road.

Young men (and increasingly young women) are naturally competitive and risk takers - it's in human DNA - and thank goodness as the human race would not make progress. But responsibility when sharing the road with others needs training into all drivers - irrespective of age.

And isn't that one of the reasons we like driving our Zeds - to exploit safely it's potential. We get training when we venture out on a track - why not for making good progress on the road - that way we can experience the thrill more safely?

:driving:

Whilst I agree with your theory, I do not agree with the blanket statement about all younger drivers!
I am what they would call a "young driver" being 21, I have been driving since I was 17, my first car was a 3 series (E36) which I maintained to the upmost standards - I spent about 4 -5 grand on it in the 3 and a bit years of ownership, serviced it every 5K miles and I never crashed it etc. The only reason I haven't got it now is because I sold it and bought my Zed.
I have had my Zed now Z4C 3.0si Sport since I was 20, again maintained fastidiously!
I don't drive like a complete and utter W*nk*r like this kid in the video - I would never dream of it! I have worked hard for my cars, there's a reason I work 45 hour weeks and travel well in excess of 300 miles a week to work in a fairly well paid job.

But then again that's appreciation for you - most kids these days don't have a morsel of it and that's why degenerates like that give us under 25's a bad name and huge insurance premiums!
Mind you, my years insurance premium, fully comp is only £700 - Not too shabby!

Sorry for the rant :D

Aye come on lads - let's not kid ourselves. I'd challenge any contributor to this thread to confirm that they've never broken the speed limit.

Any takers?

We all love our cars, and like to enjoy the power on occasion. However, filming yourself at 120mph on a narrow twisty road with other road users present - not a good idea.

In respect of forum runs - yeah I've seen bad driving, but that's a minority instance and is the exception rather than the rule.

Funnily enough the individual I had in mind in particular was driving a much newer and higher value car. We watched and winced as they made two or three ridiculous and highly inconsiderate overtaking moves just to overtake a non-zed and move one place further up the convoy when they weren't losing any ground anyway and there were a string of other Zeds behind them still.

There were other examples on the same meet where people were travelling way too fast for the roads they were driving on, which they didn't know, and we saw a couple of very near misses.

The problem is when you have some people who are very experienced drivers and know how to throw the Zed around with confidence and are capable and want to press on; then there are those who like to think they can, but can't, and so are all over the place; and then there are those who just want to drive at their own pace and enjoy the day and these people end up getting detached from the rest.

I'm actually the other way, I freely admit that I do speed, I challenge anyone to look at my driving and say it’s inappropriate speed at inappropriate times and therefore a real danger...

speed isn't dangerous, speed doesn't kill... and we need to all wake up to that fact...

why would you buy a sport car if you are not speeding?

i saw yesterday 2 bikers both with latest R1 doing 65mph on M23... why would you buy that bike and cruise with 65mph? I guess they were in second gear all the time :)) It is all about the looks?

What a complete load of bollocks!!

Explain please...

At what speed does it become dangerous or kill someone?

Is it at a certain speed?

I've been on a plane, the speed was very fast, yet I'm alive... why didn't speed kill me?

Isn't it true that speed is no more than the distance covered per unit of time???

How does speed select people for death, how does it work?

The best thing that could happen to that lad in the video would be this. Nothing hurt but his car and pride...

I think what Lux means isn't literal. Of course speed itself doesn't kill but travelling at 40mph and something steps in your path you are less likely to die drom hitting it at that speed than at hitting it at 100mph. Or the gist of.

If you have a blow out at 100mph you are far more likely to have an accident than if you had a blow out at 30mph.

It's fairly simple, which bit do you not understand?

You may think you are a good driver, but you see professional racing drivers have crashes all the time through speed what makes you better than them?

I think your statement has to be the most stupid thing I've ever read on here, and that's saying something! (Have you seen the stuff JE posts!! )

So...

you are spending 10 k for a z4 coupe

1500 pounds for suspension upgrades

2000 pounds for brake upgrades

2000 pounds for wheels and tyres

best oil, best filters

all.... so you can go 30 mph? :)

for 30- 70mph a Micra at 800 pounds will be just perfect. And if you buy a SMART car you can get the same speed feeling at 50mph :)

Quite a stupid statement really imo. One can enjoy the car without speeding.

And sure, if a driver were to partake in some fast driving, there is the care and consideration of others to consider, which the individual in question shows an utter lack of.

As pointed out by a few on PH, the frequency with which the traction control light flashes does say something too regarding the inputs of the driver.

Though I've never driven my zed in the manner in which that individual has, I think we can all agree that he would really have to be pushing the car to it's limit to manage to get the traction control to intervene so frequently.

Do you have any proof of what you are saying, or are you "just guessing"?

I think it may depend on where/how and why you have the blow out?

Professionals do have crashes all the time, most of them live through it, again not sure why you just blame speed for those, but at least proving that speed doesn't kill and it's not dangerous..

I do believe it has been shown and proven that even the government admit that only 4.5% of crashes are down to "excessive speed" and even then, 70 per cent of those are actually under the speed limit...

*the above is taken a report from the government's Transport Research Laboratory, TRL Report 323: "A new system for recording contributory factors in road accidents"*
