Anyone know this Z4MR: PX06PYT / DSU992 ?

No, I meant with the lack of running in service... Just wondering if there a price it which it is worth a punt.

Whatever the retail price of the car is minus the cost of a new S54 and fitting.

I think the car has sold hasn't it?

It will always be worth less due to running in service, you also don't know if any damage has been caused by not doing it.

I wouldn't be interested :)

Not sure if it has or was just pulled from being AUC, I asked about it as soon as it showed up but didn't hear back from the dealer. BMW got back to me to apologise for the poor service but I let the know I wasn't interested anyway after hearing about the lack of history. Assume they might have gone back to the dealer to query that.

Well, the car is still showing on the AUC website. Have not been impressed at all with the dealership, and it seems that Harry Fairbairn Irvine are living up to their poor reputation. My experience so far outlined below:

Dealership advertises a car which they've looked after for some 6 years. Although they've looked after the car for a number of years, the dealership sadly loses (!) the service book just at the time they are looking to sell it.

Agree a purchase, subject to being able to confirm the service history which they assure me is complete.

I call BMW GB who send me a written confirmation of all visits for the car to BMW dealerships. The first such visit is in 2010, around 4 years after the car was first registered. This makes me wonder if the car had ever had a running-in service.

The dealer is still happy to sell the car, keeps insisting that the service history was complete and that AUC cars are prepared to the highest standards, etc. Thanks to all the advice on here, I decide to ask the dealership 2-3 times to verify that the warranty would be valid. The first couple of times they insist it is fine, but when I ask the third time, they check with BMW.

Then revert after a few days saying they cannot apply an AUC warranty on the car. I ask for a price to buy the car as is, with the lack of warranty. A couple of days later, I get another email saying they are trying to work something out to get a warranty applied on the car.

A week or so later, they say that they can't put a warranty on it and will sell the car in the trade. Again, I ask for a price at which they sell the car to me (bearing in mind they've had my deposit since December).

Receive an email with a price that represents a discount of a few thousand pounds.

I accept the offer, thinking finally I've sorted out a car, which was important given that I've passed on a few private examples in the meantime.

The dealership then sends a message saying they aren't comfortable selling the car. No other justification beyond a fairly fluffy and vague one-liner.

As far as I'm concerned, I feel they have no integrity whatsoever, and this is one of the worst dealership experiences I've encountered. Half tempted to contact BMW GB to complain, but doubt it will achieve anything.

I now understand why many people don't want anything to do with Harry Fairbairn in Irvine. They should go back to punting cheap cars, which I believe was Arnold Clark's bread and butter.

Rant over!

Tbh, whilst that sounds like an incredibly frustrating experience, they've done you a favour. Buying an M car with no service history and no record of the running in service being completed, with no warranty - alarm bells are ringing.

They want to trade it because they are not comfortable retailing it, it is a problem car. As said, they have done you a favour.

Yup they have done you a favour and saved you from yourself! If you still want to buy this car (mystifying) then I would check your local auctions as thats where its going to turn up.

Well I did try to warn you.I would trust them as far as I could throw them, even more so with a used M car. What you have described does not for one second surprise me.I will give you one example of the sh£te service you get from this dealer.
I bought my wife a brand new Mini Cooper SD just over a year ago and wanted to buy a set of oem alloys and winter tyres.Went to the parts desk and tried to have a conversation with the parts monkey. He kept insisting that he couldn't order me these as he didn't have a chasis number for the car.The reason I wanted them before we took delivery of the car was so I could fit them straight away when we got the car.To no avail he was adamant that this couldn't be done.So on leaving the building muttering under my breath I was asked if I was ok by a guy standing at the door he turns out to be the sales manager. So I told him about my total disgust in the service I had received and couldn't believe that the dealership couldn't order a set of wheels without a chasis number,he was less than impressed with this and within 15 mins this had all been sorted out and a healthy discount to boot.
This is just one of many times I have had to complain/rant about this dealership. They always seem to f&ck up the initial response to a complaint then usually get the problem sorted after you spit the dummy at them.As I said I have numerous other stories regarding some issues to when I had my Z4MR but I would end up typing for the next 2 days!.

Shame really. Harry Fairbairn was a really nice guy, I doubt he would be pleased at his name being tarnished like this.

Evening :)
Done some speed reading on topic

I picked my car up with 10k on it
And trust me it needed nothing and even now 2 years in June it needs nothing
Mostly due to everything being replaced by me;)

But discs are fine underneath as clean as on top
But as everyone said without service history high performance cars are worth squat

When are belts due
What's been done
What's inside of engine like
Checks and regular services done
Running in check
Inspec 2 etc etc etc

So good on you for walking away
Just some other poor sod may get it

Thanks all. Now they don't seem to be responding to return my deposit.

Will pester again tomorrow!

why would you even place a deposit after the warning?? No such thing as a free meal mate, the car was that price for a reason... Full history that would have been a 20k car with those miles. Nothing on this earth is too good to be true.

I don't see how the dealership has acted unresponsively here? They've done the right thing in removing it from sale, given they can't warrant the car...would have been very easy for them to bodge a stamp in the running in service box if they were dodgy (of course you know someone will definitely do this when it hits the trade).

Also, there a bucket loads of S54 engined 'M3' cars that have missed the running in service that have been fine and hit 100k without any problems wha so ever. Actually, when I had my CSL and frequented the M3 sites I don't recall ever hearing about one S54 that went bang after 20k miles because it had missed the running in service. Not saying it was not valuable to get it done (especially given it was free service), but not sure it's 'that' important....

Let's agree to disagree. Had I not pushed hard, they would have sold me the car with a warranty that may not have been valid. Not to mention the nonsense back and forth afterwards.

Deposit was placed before they told me about the incomplete service. I also believe they are lying about their confidence that the running-in service has been carried out. Find it a huge coincidence that they lose the service book just at the time of sale.

Anyway, agree that I've been saved.

Just glad you didn't get it buddy

It's a shame that dealers feel the need to pull wool over people's eyes

If threaten to take to trading standards;)

Ref running in service
I hear you arg as you are a wealth of knowledge

With with most new things
A loose bolt/belt/etc etc etc maybe picked up on first service and prevention is always better than a cure

As we all know from buying new things
It's going to work or as new May break quickly

It's a good piece of mind:)

I had a message left about this one today (only a month after I asked for more information), sales guy wasn't available when I called back. Wonder if it is still for sale or maybe they have found/created the service history.

This is an appalling story. If I was someone important at BMW UK then this dealership would be receiving a visit and getting asked a lot of questions.
