If a car is issued an AUC Warranty, is there a possibility that the warranty is invalid due to absence of the service book ? Presume the car's service history has to be checked before an AUC warranty can be issued ?

In a word yes. Unless you can prove it has been serviced they may fail to pay out. If it is a car you really want, get written confirmation from BMW/Mondial that they will payout with the service history provided. They may just ask that the car has an inspection 2, Stuart Truman's ///M had this done to comply.
 
Thanks. I guess what I meant was whether BMW need to verify the service history before they issue an AUC Warranty?

They might not agree to it. The car I mentioned had only done 6K. They might not offer that with this one.
 
Hi I am new member and have been looking for Z4M now for few months. I have learnt a great deal about these cars by reading and going through old post on this forum. I wasn't going to join until I had bought a car but after reading this post today thought I should tell you about my experience of provisionally buying this car before Xmas. I found the car on the BMW used car site and rang the dealer, I wanted to see some pictures which he emailed to me I liked what I saw and rang back to find out about the service history. I was then told the service book had been lost and they were going to get a new book to send it all the relevant dealership to get stamped, they said this would take a few weeks to do. They then said I could put down £500 refundable deposit to hold the car which I agreed to. I too wandered about the 4 new tyers and brake pipes being replaced and was going to ask for photos of the underneath of the car to see for corrosion especially as it's in Scotland. After a few weeks they came back to me to say they could get all the service stamps bar the running in one as the dearlership had updated their computer records in 07 and could not stamp book. It was then that I decided to pull out of the deal and my money was refunded, I know how important the first service is and wanted to buy a car with good history. Sorry for such a long first post, but I wanted everyone to know the full story of my experience of this car.
 
Thanks Paul. Much appreciated. When the dealer told me that their workshop had lost the service book, I asked about the service history and was actually told they had looked after the car since 2009 but had found out a service had taken place at around 1200 miles, which would likely be the running-in service. Similar story about the dealer who did the early services having switched systems and losing records.

Funnily enough, spoke to a friend who has contacts at BMW about the car. He called me an hour ago to advise that the BMW central system doesn't appear to have any record of a running-in service, which could raise questions about the validity of the AUC warranty (in some respects, anyway). Eg. Would be interesting to see what might happen in case of a claim relating to engine or drivetrain.

All seems to tie in with your views above. Will be speaking to the dealer tomorrow, but it is an interesting coincidence that the workshop of the selling dealer lost the service book, for a car which may be missing the crucial running-in service...

I actually didn't think main dealers would/could buy/re-sell //M cars which were missing the running-in service.

For anyone who is interested, had a chat with BMW GB. Seems the first time the car is logged to have been to a BMW franchise is 2010.

Am now a bit concerned that this could be a lease car that the owner didn't look after, given that the first service was more than four years after the original purchase date...
 
If they cannot verify service history walk away. There will be loads more Z's that have it, and without it, will be very difficult to sell on.
 
Since a couple of years ago, Fairbairns have been part of the Arnold Clark empire. So if you're thinking of buying a used car from them, I'd be a bit careful...
 
I take it this is at Fairbairns in Irvine Ayrshire?.
I have been looking at this one on the AUC since the end of last year.Dealer is local to me and took my M to them a couple of times
for various faults.All I will say is check out the car yourself and I wouldn't take anything they say as gospel.If you want any more info I am more than willing to discuss by pm.

their is a reason that a 14k mile ///M is so cheap at a dealer. but out of interest why don't you disclose it here so anyone else that my be lured into the car and read what you've seen or experienced with this car.
 
I haven't any experience with this particular car,but have had plenty of dealings lets say with this particular dealership.
This may sound as whinging about a dealer but I can only speak from my personal dealings and experiences.
I don't want to discuss them online but as stated will talk via pm.

Well at the moment there is an Imola Red Z4M Roadster, also a 2006 car with 27,650 miles for sale at Sytner for £20,500 - it would probably be around this price seeing as the Imola Red car has better spec but slightly higher miles.
 
I think the car has sold hasn't it?

It will always be worth less due to running in service, you also don't know if any damage has been caused by not doing it.

I wouldn't be interested :)
