another CIC mr12volt post

Currently on hour 4 😂

I used bimmercode to code cdmm_changer_3 to audio_cdc byte code 0x01 (I believe this is correct)
-i am able to connect via Bluetooth and WiFi directly to the mr12volt
-i see options for multiple CDs but everything is grey
-looks like for this p2000 system I didn't need to use the iDrive cable and it didn't fit mine either way by the time I ran it
All the fiber connections seem as sorted
-when radio is selected I don't hear anything through speakers

When I search for Bluetooth devices it just kinda loops and never finds anything.
Not sure if the unit is defective or I am at this point

The dip switches are all off(opposite side of the on text) for the mr12volt,

Little progress swapped the fiber ports around and got audio via mr12volt, though there's no indication of Android auto, maps etc..

Also when I click on Cd it just shows mr12volt track 1-3 and it can be a bit glitchy navigating the media menu
-pulling the fiber cable on the back of the mr12v box shows one of the cable lot up but not the other

No, not quite, you change the value of "CDMM_Changer_3" from "cdc_vobereitung" to "mp3_cdc"

This is good because it means you have power to the MMI box.

This'll be because of point one above, mp3_cdc.

Yeah the box has now changed, I'm currently working on a new all encompassing video with all of the changes.

This is because you've not configured the fibre optic cable properly, I'm assuming you have the top amplifier system here.

Again go back to point one above and reset it to "mp3_cdc", this should sort it all out. Also make sure that you've not accidentally pressed the volume button and muted the headunit, this is a classic of the Mr12volt not showing up in this situation

The other issue is if the radio is switched to ‘traffic mode’ then it defeats the MMI box..sometimes it seems the radio can ‘lock’ on media interrupt mode

Thanks for the info, looks like I had already been setup under mp3 in the coding.
How do I go about unlocking?
I haven't tried to reset the box yet, not sure if there's any other iDrive commands that could help as I'm new to BMW.

To add, if it helps or not. It does let me connect to android auto, but that video feed is just invisible
Is it possible the vlds cable is the culprit?

If the LVDS cable is corrupt then it probably wouldn't show your existing iDrive screen as well.

The only thing that normally shows that screen is the Volume button pressed to mute. So now you have sorted your fibre optic, does the radio now sound? Can you plug a memory stick into the USB and receive music? Does the Bluetooth phone now work? These are not random things to check, I'm edging towards something, but need to know the answers first

Totally get it, I'm in IT so always the plan to figure out what it isn't.

So radio works
I could do Bluetooth directly from my phone to the BMW

I could also forgo the Bluetooth to the BMW, and instead Bluetooth directly to the Mr 12 volt after going in and out of the media menu if you times it usually works the audio sounds as good as what I'm used to
Sometimes if no audio is playing through the Mr 12 volt and I turn up the volume I hear a high hz sound

I think the fiber optic is set up correctly, I was going to take it out after work today and double check but the original fiber cable that was plugged into the lock plug has been moved to the Mr 12 volt adapter

I haven't tried plugging in anything to the Mr 12 volt USB yet, and it doesn't look like you're able to update the firmware unless you had the 12 volt screen showing with its own options.

Hang on, do you mean you can connect your phone to the Mr12volt and play music through your cars speakers without seeing the Mr12volt screen being displayed??!! :?

If that is correct then I'm wondering if you've, somehow, connected the LVDS wrong (not sure how off the top of my head though).
So with the new two into one LVDS cable now being used, one end is Female and one is Male. The Male end goes into the rear of the headunit, and the Female connects with what is the original Male that was removed from the headunit, this original goes directly to the screen.

Also, sorry when I said about plugging a memory stick into the USB, I meant the OE USB in the centre console, not the one for the Mr12volt.

An explanation - If you have the amplified Business system then this is connected via speaker wires from the headunit to the amplifier.
With the Professional amplified system this uses the fibre optic from the headunit to the amplifier.
Your Bluetooth, USB, AUX are connected to either a Combox (Bluetooth audio & calls) or a MULF (Bluetooth calls only), these are both connected via the fibre optic network.
If you have a break or cross anywhere within the fibre optic network then none of these will work, ie; Bluetooth, USB, AUX and Amplification with the Professional system. If you have the Business system then you'll still be able to have audio from the radio only, but nothing else will work, not even show as available (ie; twirling Bluetooth, no USB available etc), hence why I was asking, and specifically the OE Bluetooth and USB. My thought was that you still have an issue with the fibre optic network somewhere.

Correct! I can, and nav but obviously nothings displayed on the screen
Just the default iDrive

I haven't tried USB or aux yet but Bluetooth has been working fine before and after the install.

The blue connector is in the red port on the back of the hu
The pink one is in the Y splitter, then the white (I believe) is in the mr12v

Hmmmmm, that all seems OK, from what you are saying and your photos.
One thing that just came to mind, is the MMI box end of the LVDS cable pushed fully home? If it wasn't then you'd still get your normal iDrive video output on the screen because the LVDS is a passthrough cable. You'd still see the words Mr12volt on the CDC screen, because this information is sent to the headunit via the CanBus, so everything would work except for what the box is sending out.

I see you're in San Jose, I'd be happy to undertake a house-call for expenses  :D

Haha

Just checked all cables in back of 12volt are solid.
Gonna grab a paperclip and reset the unit to see if it does anything

It's San Jose California trust me you don't wanna visit here hah

Happy to visit California again, it's been 5 years since I was there. Surprisingly, nobody ever takes me up on this offer to help in the US

If that reset doesn't work then I'd suggest contacting Mr12volt directly.

Oh not too long! if I didn't just buy the Z I might take you up on that offer! haha.

I reached out to them yesterday, so I'm waiting to hear back from them. I might reseat all the cabling later today.

This is slightly off-topic, but just a general comment for those potentially considering Mr12Volt's MMI. I never had one in a Z4, but I did have one for my 6 series and the kit was pretty good quality and decent support as you'd expect for ~£400. Recently I got a daily with the CIC system and wanted Android Auto on it, but couldn't justify paying Mr12Volt's prices, so I decided to take a punt on a highly rated AliExpress seller for £140 for what looked to be the same kit as many companies just re-brand with their own logo.

Well happy to say the kit is exactly the same as Mr12Volt's, expect even better support. Delivered within 5 days and no problems months later. Company is called "PEMP".

Can't find one, can you throw up a link please, would love to check it out

This is the one I bought, albeit I had a "first purchase" discount of some sort:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007335695753.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.32f61802Phlrgo

Also I've just noticed that the Mr12Volt units from nowadays do not look like the unit I had 2+ years ago (which looked more like the above).

Yeah I saw this one, it's a standard mmi box with audio out to the AUX socket.

The reason that most people go for the Mr12volt mmi box is due to the MOST fibre optic integration, giving digital sound quality.

Does anyone know where I can get a CIC upgrade file for the software update? Or is what im running the latest version? Still trying to sort out these mr12volt issues

Multimedia version: MX-003.004.031
Telephone version: TX-003.004.031

You'd have to use the ISTA/ISTP winkp BMW tool set to do that..

The numbers you highlighted are the firmware from the blue tooth adapter..that's not the CIC s/w..

I can't see that making much difference..it was frozen over in 2013 ish..

My 2011 CIC formware worked fine and others have fitted it to pre 2011 units with no issues..
