another CIC mr12volt post

How did you get it to connect to CarPlay?
Mine connects to Bluetooth, pairs, but never connects to CarPlay. I have iPhone 15 with the latest iOS 18.5

Thanks, I had done everything right, I gave up and when I restarted my phone the next day it just connected straight away and hasn't missed a beat. So try restarting your phone if you have set up CarPlay and it refuses to connect.

AnubisZed, mine switches over to parking sensor screen when I shift into reverse, but when I shift back into drive to go forward, Apple CarPlay comes back immediately and I lose the parking screen. Is there a way to make it stay on parking screen for a while? That would be the only negative with this system and it's a pretty small one.
Thanks

I have to say to everyone if you haven't installed Apple CarPlay in your e89, it really is sensational. It works with existing display in surprisingly good resolution, the sound quality is excellent, Apple maps is a dream, with Siri integration, Spotify or Apple Music, hell even Audible, and you can use Google Maps or Waze if you prefer. It really works pretty well with the existing iDrive controller (the directional pad doesn't do much, but you can get to everything pretty quickly by twisting the knob) and the Menu Button serves to switch Carplay Screens and long press (1 sec) to go back and forth between the original CIC system and CarPlay whenever you want. I love it and would highly recommend spending the ~US$180 and the effort of installing it. It took me a couple of weeks (4 days of actually working on it) because I was very unsure and went really slowly. Z4 Mods videos were most helpful - thank you, AnubisZed. And thanks to all the other excellent people on this forum helping people out again and again.

Also, I put the supplied microphone on the front of the head unit, behind the four-studded plastic trim plate, instead of through the steering wheel. It's a little bit easier to install this way, and it works great, even hearing me say "Hey Siri" when the music is playing.

There’s an option in the mr12volt settings, something along the lines of “with gear selector” I can’t remember exactly but I had the same problem but that sorted it out.

My front camera causes a mr 12 volt glitch..

I put the car in drive…screen shows camera view…after preset time it then return to mr 12 volt…if it’s in CarPlay mode video glitches very badly..if it’s in set up mode video is stable..

Stopping..

Putting it into reverse then back into drive solves the glitch till next time I shift from neutral to drive…

Weird..

Thanks, I think I saw that, but "with gear lever", the most intuitive option, was already selected. I'll have another look and try the option "CAN bus" - maybe that's it

Just checked mine and you need to select “parking key”

Thanks for sharing, but it didn’t work for me.

Mine is currently on “CAN Bus active” and as I said that switches to Parking sensors when your shift into reverse, but it exits the instant you leave Reverse gear.

I tried “Park key active” and “12 volt” but they did nothing at all and it wouldn’t even switch to parking sensors pressing the parking sensors button or shifting into reverse.

Whilst I was checking mine I tried alternating some of the settings and noticed that when I re set them back the Parking sensors wouldn’t stay on when I shifted out of reverse, but once I’d turned the car off and removed the key and re started the parking sensors stayed on when i then put it in drive, so perhaps it needs to shut down to apply the settings.

Ahhh … interesting! I thought about the possibility but the changes seemed to update immediately so I abandoned the idea of having to turn the car off.

Armed with this, I shall try again, shutting the car down completely!

Thanks 🙏

Nope,,, didn’t work for me unfortunately.

I changed the setting, took the key out and even left the car overnight.

No change unfortunately, no parking sensor screen at all with “P key active” setting..

Maybe it’s the firmware version?

Where did you buy your mmi box from? That firmware/software is not original from Mr12volt, so I'd assume it from another supplier?

Aha…problem at least partially solved..trouble shooting a Mr 12 Volt box that isn’t a Mr 12 Volt box… :tumbleweed:  :headbang:

Yeah mine was from ztuzauto… but I think they’re all just copies of each other, based on the same android OS, the same hardware, and the same software… perhaps with a subtle difference —the parking sensor settings work differently 😂

Not necessarily true…whereas the hardware and software is often cut from a main source tree there are in fact a myriad of tweaks that can/ do happen…if you read the thread on E90/E89 android head units you would be amazed at the number of dialectal versions..plus rapid iteration of s/w with no concept of backward compatibility means even the same h/w with different firmware levels can be markedly different…the Mr 12 Volt s/w has gone through at least 20 releases covering at least 4 h/w versions ..so unless both of you are on the same release of the same h/w by a specfic supplier there’s no guarantee…fwiw

Hmmm, OK, well firstly I'd say, on the most part, they are all relatively the same, they share the general same design, firmware and software with some tweaks between specific sellers that sell them as their own so may have some different settings etc.
Now the Mr12volt box design, firmware and software are not shared with anyone else, so the fact that this UI looks the same in layout is a huge coincidence.

OK, so my settings are "Aftermarket Camera" and "Parking Key" for activation, this is because I have a manual, and for an automatic it would require "Gear Position" to activate the reverse camera screen.

Here's a video of how it "should" work....

Mines the DSG with “parking key”
Edit, that should be DCT

It’s the front camera that’s proving tricky..I don’t have a rear camera ..yet.. :tumbleweed:
