An un-insured driver wrote off my car INS PRICE UPDATE

Sorry to hear this one - very frustrating that the police are never interested in these sorts of events, would love to speak to those who set the rules as I just can not understand this with the non insured or driving away after an accident people.

The police are c.......

Nice attitude idiot. Let's hope you never need them eh? Maybe it's the people in government who make the rules that the police are governed by rather than the guys on the ground themselves, tagert driven policing etc. Using the C word is totally unnecessary and childish.
Crap situation though OP, feel for you, hope It works out ok.

Such a shame- as others have said try and get a decent price and buy car back for peanuts and either (hopefully) repair yourself or worse case part it out.

Know exactly how you feel mate.

It's one thing to be angry with yourself and take it as a lesson when it's your own fault, but when you have so much damage through no/little fault of your own, it's not so easy and you feel like you're being punished twice (once by the other driver & again by the insurance company).

I'm just waiting for mine to be assessed before I think about removing my mods (B16 suspension, exhaust, Gruppe-M, private plate). Just spent £1000 on an I2 and bits too :(

Glad I'd decided to wait until the new year for new wheels& tyres though :?

My insurance is up for renewal on the 6th too. The current insurer is confusing me, as despite me having a renewal letter in front of me, they're now saying they won't insure in my postcode for this car and for someone with 0 NCB. I had full protected NCB until this accident, and I haven't changed address or car???

The police are c**ts.

The Police are understaffed & under constant scrutiny with budget cuts despite the recent news, whilst I agree the uninsured driver should be prosecuted I suspect that this may be a casualty of it involving a foreign driver & may ultimately lead to a dead end & hence wasting police recourses, I day say it would be a different situation if there had been injuries though.

mmm-five, why would you have 0NCB though? You drop, but surely not to 0?

Gutted for you - everyones worse nightmare, losing their p&j and not getting back all the money they've put into it. Horrible situation :(

Sorry sorry mate.... Uninsured drivers are a menace to the roads.

Cant believe the police were not interested either.

I would go through an acident claim company... They will be able to sort you out with a salvage yard which will buy the car off you... In most cases they collect it straight from the garage... And will pay more than it will cost you to buy it back off the insurance company.

Also never accept the firsts offer from the insurance company.

What happened to the other driver?

He's got protected so shouldn't drop any years.

I think I can have two claims in a year before I lose any years NCB.

That's why they're confusing me!

Anyway, I'll keep the commentary to my own thread :P

Sorry to hear this :( I know it doesn't make up for it but I hope you find another and aren't left too much out of pocket.

If you know where he lives, feel free to post it... lots of accidental fires are started by Christmas trees...

Horrible! Feel really gutted for you. I guess a lot of us worry about getting the odd dink while parked, but this set of circumstances is just sickening. :(

Sorry to hear the bad news.Surely the police can't just ignore this,if you have the others drivers details. :headbang:
I though insurance companies have a fund to help out when you are hit by a non insured driver. If you google uninsured driver the Motor Insurance Broker are there to help. You have to report it within five days.

That's a real pita, feel for you. As for the police not being that interested, make an official complaint, start a Private Prosecution and then sue the bast&*d for damages.

On the bright side you now have a decent deposit for a Z4MR

This Police are not interested thing is very worrying. Can the OP provide a little more detail as to why they are not taking action and which Police force is involved

Sorry to hear this and further highlights that those in society that pay their way are penalised and those that don't have no deterrent. This kind of thing really annoys me.

I don't buy the "blame the government" theory either.Yes I'm sure cuts etc play a big part in where resources go but it's against the law to drive without insurance and it's the police job to uphold the law. I would be speaking to your local mp and someone as high up in your police force as possible.
