Am i mad? VXR8

With £22k to spend on a V8, there are three 3-year-old Jaguar S-Type R on Jaguar's website (all less than 20k miles). I would prefer the Jag to VXR8.

The big jaguar is great value for money. One is 57-plated and only £21,995. The car covered less than 20k miles. List price was over £50k. Super-charged V8 has 400bhp, 0-62mph in 5.3 sec. Insurance group is only 19. All figures are closed to M3 (E46) and M5 (E39) for much less. Down-side is that Jaguar is now Tata. :(

My Z4M has gone now although i wont get the VXR8 for another couple of weeks so have an Agila CDTi courtesy car which is a box on wheels basically...lol
(i am on holiday shortly and dont have the cash in place to sort it out beforehand).

Took the VXR8 i'm having on a quick test drive although half of it wasnt working yet (its powered down for transport so fuses are missing, workshop computer needs plugging in etc) so i had no speedo, rev counter or indicators working....anyway it was quiet so no problems, didnt give it any as its new and it hadnt warmed up but you can hear and full the big lump even at minimal revs.

Congratulations! 6.2l v8 400bhp+ 8)

I would have wanted to go out for a decent test drive and give it the beans before deciding though, plus I wouldnt want a V8 to be quiet! :D

You might find it a bit like my SLK though, fast and efficient but lacking soul.

I'd not expect something with a 6.2 V8 to be lacking soul!

Had a look at the Jag but as i'm not drawing my pension yet they dont really float my boat.
I dont always take cars on a test drive before i buy them, if i like the look of a car and its such a good deal money wise i think i can always change it for minimal (or no loss or even profit) if i want to 6 months down the line. Although i only had the M for 4 months it doesnt mean this wasnt/isnt a great car, it is, one of the best i've owned....maybe i'll be back in the fold in 12 months, who knows?!

And no the car isnt quiet although a Wortec exhaust might pipe things up a bit....thats one for next year though.

Have you got it yet?

They are advertising the Auto for £22500 now, not listing manuals any more. £14k off list is a helluva deal though.....

wow, if i could afford the petrol and insurance i would get 1 for my next company car, better than the golf i was thinking about

20mpg and group 20 insurance, not suitable for a service engineer, would always be on time though :)

If I could get one for £12k in about 2 years id be a very happy man, really want a muscle car but the American imports are costly, this is the wise choice, plus you can take the family hooning too lol

What happened to "want it, get it"? :D

Really surprised that comparisons are being drawn between a Z4M and the VXR8. The former is a nimble sports car, the latter is a machine for consuming thousands of miles in a straight line.

the saying is 'Like it, buy it' :)

i don't like that its group 20 insurance and only does 20 mpg so :P

He did buy one in the end, but he doesn't use the forum any more. He then moved on to a Mini Cooper S JCW and is now in a classic Impreza I believe.

I think there is no point to indicate some thousand of differences between Z4 & WXR8. If you are impressed with powerful machines you should check this site http://deutschland.cat.com/cda/layout?m=308665&x=7
That WXR8 looks like some russian Lada or romanian dacias. :D
