I drove the Pontiac version and was not impressed...

Hmm... a colleague of mine is about to buy a 2005 GTO with the LS2 engine... could you elaborate?
First I don’t like large cars and never have so my opinion is bias. It has massive power/acceleration and you can feel that anytime you press the accelerator down. I did not drive it at anything approaching full power. The steering feel was IMO terrible and the cars feels heavy. When you take a curve at speed in a Zed it feel secure…planted. It did not and maybe that is because of the steering. Then there is the appearance which doesn’t do much for me. The gas mileage I know is not very good and would be willing to bet if I drove it like I drive my “M” my gas mileage would be in the low teens.

22K for a Vauxhall ! , no matter what engine its got. Still a vauxhall.

I think it actually a Holden, GM Australia.. totally bonkers car with a mad exhaust note.. but have you looked at depreciation... then again why not for a laugh :D

Yes its bascially a re-badged Holden.
MPG is better with the LS3 engine than before, 15mpg round town, 20mpg mixed and up to 30mpg on the Mway...these are real world results from owners.
Not driven one, extra doors not really required as we are getting on fine with having a Renault Scenic as well (i have 3 kids, 5 and under).
Best price to change is £2888 although best trade in price ive got is £21k but that dealer has the vxr8 at £24k so £3k to change.

Anyway think i've decided to keep the M till next year then who knows....i change my mind weekly....lol...much to my wifes annoyance.

Thats a hell of a price, I posted a similar link up a few weeks ago.

I'm not a badge snob so that doesn't bother me, plus as it has been said, it's a rebadged Holden not a Vauxhall anyway.

Part of me would like to consider a big V8, and the rear seats would be useful. The mpg is the main thing that puts me off though, probably 15-18, compared with currently 23-25 in the Z4M.

What's the deal with the 90 day thing? Can you get your car and cash back at any time for any reason?

Even at this great price, I still think it would depreciate more than my 2.5 year old M will though. Then again you do have to factor in a three year warranty etc

I'll have mine in black please

Not sure Mark on the 90 day thing, trying to find out!
Will probably deperciate more but its alot cheaper to service, sub £200 for a service.

I think if I was in the market for a big four seater the VXR8 would fit the bill nicely! Good sensible family car with a big boot and comfortable seats :)

Would be fun to drive with that V8 Soundtrack but would never have one over a Z4 its ugly compared to the looks of our cars.

Would go for the Monaro if i wanted 4 seats

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Been trying to get a few prices, ~£3k to change is the best which tbh is a little to much although i have one dealer trying to move onto on better price (alledgedly) ie nearer £2k.
Had a look at a chaps grey VXR8 today, he'd only picked it up yesterday.....pretty good in the flesh, has those bruising muscle car looks and from the front its a real "get out the way" stance.

not my thing- widnt dream of going grom the z to this- if i needed/wanted this type of thing i would buy a used m3

Looking at 2nd-hand values, I don't see why not if you're already tempted. Worst case you could keep that VXR8 for a year or two and probably sell it on for what you paid for it!

Well i've not signed on the dotted line but i've got to make a 95 mile trip to the dealer tomorrow (North Wales) cus i've verbally agreed on a cost of £2200 to change (this makes me well over £1k on the Z4M since i bought it in March) and the dealer says he must have my Z4 before the end of the month and as i'm on holiday shortly that leaves tomorrow as the best day.

Very good! Certainly an interesting car and rarer than a Z4M I wonder? Certainly more unique than a Z4 anyway.

Hmm I would check out the 90 days a bit more, don't think it's like "try before you buy". Sounds to me like they are running them as demo cars, after which I believe they can reclaim the VAT back on it if it's been 3 months or longer.

What the dealers do with pre-reg cars is keep the V5 for three months as if they had held it that long, despite you collecting it straight away. Nothing wrong with it either, if it saves a load of cash on the price - but no going back once you've collected it.

MPG and the looks would put me off it, other than that for the money it's a lot of performance, suppose you'll be able to take the wife and kids out in it too, which you can't do with the Z4M. You might find it a bit like my SLK though, fast and efficient but lacking soul.

Found out you can give it back at a price....£2500+vat.
Its a Vauxhall wide scheme and is an industry standard i believe, they arent demo cars but brand new, 10 miles on the clock etc...Vaux are shifting their stock as they arent importing the next gen HSV Clubsport (which the VXR8 is) so once they've gone thats it. They hold the V5 for 90 days then its transferred to your name, you still insure the car in your name as normal.
They run on 95ron i believe so that offsets some of the lower mpg compared to the Z4M running on super.

Well we expect a full write up tomorrow then :)

My Z4M has gone now although i wont get the VXR8 for another couple of weeks so have an Agila CDTi courtesy car which is a box on wheels basically...lol
(i am on holiday shortly and dont have the cash in place to sort it out beforehand).

Took the VXR8 i'm having on a quick test drive although half of it wasnt working yet (its powered down for transport so fuses are missing, workshop computer needs plugging in etc) so i had no speedo, rev counter or indicators working....anyway it was quiet so no problems, didnt give it any as its new and it hadnt warmed up but you can hear and full the big lump even at minimal revs.

You've bought this car without taking one out for a full test drive :( Hope you like it, should be fun on the twisties and the soundtrack should be terrific! Sports exhaust should be first on your list!!
