Interested in trading an 05 reg Combo van for the Caterham?
Debbie wouldn't be happy giving up our dog van, but she'd get over it.

I know a guy who used to buy two new BMWs every couple of years. Performance saloon for him; sporty number for his wife. Had used the same dealer for years. A few years back he put his name on the waiting list for an E60 M5. Specced it up nicely and it came in at just over £70k. Anyway, he eventually took delivery and six weeks later he was in his dealership when they took delivery of one of the first RHD M6s. He was quite taken with the idea of being the first at his golf club with one of these, so he asked whether he would be able to buy it. Oh yes, certainly. That'll be £83k sir. Then they offered him.... £38k for the M5. And he did it....ronk said:I reckon on a 50%(ish) loss ever three years.
OK. I didn't make myself too clear with my post... The point I was trying to make was this. In response to BB07NER's 'am I an idiot?' question, if he wants to keep increasing his monthly lease figure, that's up to him. Someone else will always look at it and think he's mad. Others, like the M5 / M6 guy would think nothing of dropping £30k in a few weeks and no doubt some people would look at that and think the same. People would look at what I've spent modding a 9 year old car and think the same of me. I wasn't making a judgement of who's and idiot and who's not... mainly because I'm clearly in no position to do so myselfkevinmarkwhite said:I don't see such people as idiots though.....assuming he has the money to support such purchases, and more importantly, losses, then why is he an idiot?

Dropping £30k on a car in 6 weeks to buy a new one to impress the golf club is pure vanity, IMO - not an indicator of great character, or an ability to hold onto all that cash he must have for very long into the future, also IMO. Chucking £30k away is pretty stupid, whatever way you look at it. That said, would it have been worse if he'd simply kept the M5 and bought the M6 too I wonder...
BBO7NER said:back on topic... I've still not told the wife yet, but my cunning plan is forming nicely.
I've resorted to do a 'back to the future' about a conversation I've not yet had where my FD and commercial director increase my car allowance by £250 a month. Funnily enough when I told the wife how well the meeting went she started laughing and said "so what are you getting next!?" you know you're playing it right when you don't have to lay the punch line 8)
Providing the meeting happens and goes to plan then it'll be alright (which is doable). Meeting should happen around end of August, car comes in september and I'll tell her that I'm getting a new seraphite in a few weeks... it's amazing how the dealerships can deliver on spec in such a short space of time![]()

just for the record, I'm not normally such a lieing bastard and it's probably the only thing i'll cheat on, but that is circumstantial.
I'll post another update when she lands (the car, not the wife)
