A690 fault code

Thanks. My local BMW dealer have told me that the Microswitches don't come with the plug attached any more. So would you just take the plug off the old one and solder it on?

Micro switches do but you need to swap them over to the original as they have changed. See my photos of when I did this.

Why mess around with connectors, always source of problems.
Just solder in new wires.

So every connector has wire to pin, pin to female, female to wire.
Just there potential for three faults, never mind broken wires.

The root cause of the problem was the actual sensor. Solder has its problems too. So long as connections are made good they are usually reliable.

I only unpinned and then repinned. The actual pin was not removed from the wires.

But a get your advice 👍

As it's already crimped on the wires of the new microswitches? Why should they be cut off to re-solder wires?
Just pop off the new housing and push it into the old housing. IMHO much easier and secure.

That is exactly what I did. There is a reason solder is not used in joining wires. That’s what I was taught in during my Royal Naval training as a weapons engineer. It’s not failed me yet so I continue to do this.

But we all have opinions. This is just mine. If it fails it’s on me🤣😂🤣

This is the point where the roof stopped on closing. With the rear windscreen still up. It would only shut if I opened the roof fully again then tried closing it for a second time. Do you think this is likely to be a broken wire more than faulty Microswitches or hall sensors?

Are the other Microswitches with the couplings in the trunk different part numbers to the other 2? I've already ordered 54377228585 and 54377228586.

These 2 partnumbers are correct for the trunk.

Thanks. The e89 Hall sensor I bought doesn't have connectors ( I believe it used to?). So is it now exactly the same as the much cheaper e88 or mini part?

Well Jake,

You are a really complicated guy, aren't you?
The above picture shows an E88 spare part.

Just read the provided details sorrowly and exactly, learn the difference between a hall sensor and a microswitch and have a look (ore even more) into the HowTo section.

And once again a personsal warning: don't discuss your problems in the HowTo's!

Reminder: the following post

That was the only part I bought from eBay rather than from a BMW dealer. So it looks to me me they are selling the cheaper part as the e89 part . I'll return it

Nevertheless, this (E88 HS) is the correct part, we recommend since ages.

And yes, it'll be delivered without a connector.
And yes, it has to be reworked a bit.

And yes, all these details can be found in the HowTo section.

I know I can use the part from eBay but I am annoyed that they sold it as the original e89 part not the much cheaper e88 part. I just ordered a couple from a BMW dealer and they are less than £13 each versus the eBay part at £89.95 each.

I was thinking that maybe a G29 roof would be easier to fix but it doesn't look like it. See this thread

The honeymoon on the later generation of Zeds and the B58 are coming to an end..quite a few B58s cracking pistons when modestly tuned..at least with the N54 that wasn't an issue..

Seems always the case when new tech starts to age there's a gap between the faults and massive repair costs before the clever ones spot / make work arounds..
