A690 fault code

I've got fault code "A690 Hall sensor VSW5.1"on Bimmerlink. Is this definitely due to the Hall sensor as on Staiger Neufen it says A690.is the "Micro switch rear module, closed left" on the fault codes list on https://www.staiger-neuffen.de/cabrio-dach-notdienst-roof-emergency-service/

When I closed the roof it almost closed but stopped with the back windscreen still up on the roof and a red warning light on the dashboard..I turned the ignition off and on and I could shut the roof then.

I wouldn't particularly rate Bimmerlink error messages

AFAIK A690 is a microswitch related error code

The garage did another check using ISTA and got the same code.

If it helps I had had the same codes which pointing towards the hall sensors. However the roof operation was perfect. Just the bong when driving.

The result in the end was one of the two micro switches on the left and right boot lock. £45 a piece. One had faulty readings so changed both for good measure.

Not quite correct.

The problem arises from the incorrect naming in the internal EDSCHA/BMW documentation:
These 2 microswitches are named as "hallsensor", even if they definitely are microswitches. That's the reason, why every tool will present a hall sensor fault. :rofl:

My quote as “correct” was implied to the part numbers.

But as you correctly point out. The code will point to hall sensors even though it’s related to micro switches. That was my problem leading to replacement of the two hall sensors first which did not resolve my issue.

Only after replacing the two micro switches was it resolved. One switch had intermittent readings in the closed position. This kept throwing codes telling the car my rear hatch was open.

Thanks everyone for your advice and info on this. I've ordered the parts and am taking it to a BMW specialist as I wasn't confident that my usual garage knew what they were doing on this. I think they had only ever fixed one e89 roof and that had taken them a long time to work out the issues.

I know, my answer is a bit late.

But, I've doublechecked the named fault code list on
https://bmwfault.codes/
which is the source of the Staiger fault code collection.



It states "microswitch" for the A690 on E89's, which is definitely correct.
Having a look on the next line, this code points to a hallsensor, but on 3-series E93 convertibles.
