82 MM Laser Cut ///M and BMW Badges

Some interesting ideas for machining here
I saw earlier in the thread that someone had asked about a steering wheel inset. Can I comment that would be a really bad idea. If the airbag deployed it could/would wedge a metal disk in your face. Wouldn't want any court cases :(

The original is aluminium shell and is clamped into the airbag cover. (I've fitted a light plastic badge, but still a possible hazzard)

On a different note I have ///M fang protectors. They are just stainless templated crescent shapes that match the fang and held on with a couple of flat round headed machine bolts

Look brilliant, only seen them in silver cars previously. Definitely think they look better on darker colours.

so what do you need for the templates then? if somebody has there //M front bumper off, do you literally just need them to trace the fang outline for you? if so im sure somebody who has theres off (or access to a ramp) could help out, if not im planning on changing my front lower corner plastics and a wheel arch liner as soon as the new parts arrive, while its off im happy to take and template/photos/measurements if needed ?? will be in next week or so depending on parts arriving

A template would be great, i was thinking I could then get the parts cut to exactly match the template. I've never seen the rpi skid plates so not sure if they are just completely flat? If they are flat then making these would be a doddle but would need a template so that they definitely fit before I get a load cut. A template of the rpi plates would be even better as I could make them to match exactly.

well like i say mine should be off in the next week or so depending on another member sending me a couple of parts (Drivers wheel arch trim) as ive got some lower front plastic corners to go on so makes sense to have everything off at same time and replace so would be a doddle once bumper is off, would do a cardboard template and plenty of pics etc and then just post them to ya :D

but like u say, if somebody could do the RPI parts it would be even better....

hopefully we can get this sorted soon and make a nice addition to everybodies //M front ends!

Hi Dans, I have my new (to me anyway) Z4M front end back from paint and sat in my workshop waiting to go on.

I have taken some pics off the net of the RPI ones faffed around with the image and managed to get them the correct size to use for a template. Just finishing off a hardboard template to offer up and post on the forum to judge reactions. I plan on making several templates with differing sizes protruding from the front to give, 1.an invisible appearance and 2. protruding style to give a splitter type effect. Once I have finished templates I will post pics on this topic. ( Maybe hard to judge as it won't be fitted to car, but can only try).

If reaction is satisfactory I can send you some thin card templates through the post.

Watch this space.. :D

Think that looks really good [/quote]

Cheers Mark. I like 'em too. Still puzzling over whether to have them painted body colour though.

Brilliant, happy to make some of these, will be a lot cheaper than the RPI ones also.

How about air scoops?

Sounds interesting. A quick search for RPI versions, looks like it could be cut from sheet and then the edges bent. Could powder coat different colours as required maybe.

Now the hard bit.......finding someone willing to make a template/temporarily lend me one. :tumbleweed:

update on the RPi scoop........ i have received my brand new never fitted scoop from forum member Jpeeters  (thanks again)

will trial fit it to my Z this weekend just to make sure it fits my 2.0 then once im happy it does, i will send it to Dan. having had a quick look at it, it should be a piece of cake for him to cut the template and bend to suit, only small issue is that where 2 corners meet it may need a small weld, or some other kind of seal (to stop air passing through) but overall this is 100% achievable and judging from his other work it will be a very good cheaper option for the forum people

i assume people could even choose colours depending on what dan can get sprayed etc.

anyway will trial fit at weekend and then get it sent off

ill send the screws aswell, so you can maybe source some identical screws (and also a small bit of double sided tape is already attached) so you copy the exact kit and then pass them on ready to fit

Brilliant  Looks fairly straight forward to be fair, will be great if we can get some of these made at a reasonable cost. Will also get a price for coating in different colours.

I imagine it would. I'm sure the mounting points would be the same as it's exactly the same chassis and front end.

I'd definitely be interested

yea i want a red 1 lol (to match brakes and interior etc) so will either get you to make me a red 1 or paint my original lol.

will drop you a pm for address etc over the weekend and get it sent to u asap so u can make a start before the xmas rush starts

managed to trial fit this on Monday night (when i failed at fitting my HIDS!!!) so its good to go. (can confirm it fits a 2.0 engine, just needs new holes drilled, easy as its in plastic)

dans6490 you have a pm, if u send me your address ill get it sent to u asap and hopefully u will have time to make up the template etc and maybe make a start next week before the break up for xmas (could be stocking fillers for people to buy...... for themselves for xmas hahaha)
