IMO better in every way and I like how it looks.
The list that Peter has given and said yes too are correct

the next two are in the eye of the beholder
I’ve done nearly 40k in my two and they’ve been reasonably hard miles. Either European trips, forum runs or weekends/trips away for me and the OH. It’s never been a daily, but could easily be if you wanted it too.
The room both in the cabin and boot are next level. I’m 6’2 and could never quite get the right position in the E89. Felt the seat could’ve gone back another inch or two. G29 I have room behind the seat. Don’t keep bumping into OH on the central console. The boot space is hugely important to us. We had enough room for a months worth of stuff when we recently toured Spain and Portugal.
The acceleration is mind blowing even though on paper they look similar, the torque makes overtaking an absolute breeze. The box and engine are perfectly matched imo. It thinks quicker than I do so I’m very happy. The power and torque band always means you’re in the right gear. Can be driven in Sports + as a full manual without auto change up. I could’ve changed my order to manual before build date, gave it very little thought and carried on with existing order.
Handling is great, but by fcuk sore on tyres. I don’t care about that, it’s a running cost of the car as far as I’m concerned. The E89 always felt meh as far as handling when driving on the limit. G29 much more compliant and confidence inducing and my E89 had new shocks all round when I got it (within 3k to the week before)
A strange thing for a car like this but when you just want to cruise very fuel efficient. On our trip to Spain set the cruise at 97 (I think) and the fuel consumption went up
To sum up and answer your question, Personally I wouldn’t take another E89 if someone gave me one over my G29.
If I was changing again and they were still making them I’d get another. Didn’t like the Boxster, felt like I was wearing it rather than sitting in it but I’m a big lad, that doesn’t reflect in the G29. HTH
