3 Orange dash lights

These are getting to be a pain now.
Gotta to start somewhere 👍
Apparently I should drive the car with the reader connected to get a better reading.

Which lights exactly? C310+ is cheaper from Amazon and just as good, if not better.

I would start with the wheel speed sensors.
Worth pulling them out and giving them a clean. It is often just metallic dust from the pads and discs that interferes with them.

Wheel speed sensors do normally also bring on the tyre pressure warning light (although not in 100% of cases) so I think ABS pump is more likely. ECUtesting will sort the ABS pump for you... codes 5Df0 5Df1 will confirm.

Local garage had a quick look at it and said pump useing There tester.
Problem is on eBay there a few pump from £30-£400 so a gamble.
Will split the ecu from new pump so won’t have to recode?
If I go for that route.

What’s the point in buying a second hand pump from Ebay that is likely to suffer same fault? Ecutesting will give you lifetime warranty. It’s the oem grease used on the motor brushes that is the fundamental problem.

Ok fair point.
2 prices on ECU site £250 refurbed £200 own refurbed approx.
If i buy ready refurbed to bolt on it would need programming by BMW but my own won’t?
Cheers

It will need reprogramming but not necessarily by BMW. Any competent indy or shade-tree mechanic with INPA, winfkp, ect can reprogram the DSC module to the car.
I think the turnaround time for sending in your own unit is quite good. That might be the best option.

IMO it is the ABS pump.
(Compare with the description I put up some time ago as I have had both ABS pump and steering angle faults
ABS / DSC Vs Steering Angle faults - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=121145)

The fault codes should lead you to a sticking pump motor 5DF0- a known fault - brushes expand and stick so pump motor stops working , yes you can send it away for £250 or you can repair it yourself by replacing the jammed brushes which is the identified cause.
Brushes from Ebay.
I had to use INPA to bleed the pump and DSC unit after being fully drained.
I am near Chepstow if thats any good and you want to talk - I used ICARSOFT for initial diagnostics which also checks the wheel speed sensors.
The Brush and bearing repair kit was about £30 if I recall correctly
good luck.

A Pump repair / replacement does not need reprogramming.
The DSC/ABS computer from new or another car will need reprogramming.

Anyone done this? How hard to bleed the system?

You could always use INPA software to carry out the brake bleed which activates the ABS pump for a few seconds - this would prove if your pump works.
Post replacing the pump brushesI and running the motor on the bench and full reassembly I found that I could not bleed the brakes properly once the ABS /DSC was reinstalled so had to use INPA bleed program to activate the pump bleeding cycle
Its not hard but you just need someone to sit in the car activating the pump and pressing the pedal while someone else bleeds at the wheels.
I tried Vacuum bleeding and pressure bleeding but only got about 75% brake efficiency = soft pedal , whereas operating the pump whilst bleeding made the brakes pedal much more solid.

I feel the task was daunting rather than difficult but I was an engineer by trade - the problem I now have is having to plug the car into a laptop anytime these bloody lights come on. I would rather not have ABS / DSC wheel sensors, g measurement , electric steering in the first place!
but guess we all have to move with the times.
