Scouting reports are coming in for the desert bloom. Both areas are going nuts. Timming is everything when the desert blooms, and now is the time to drive, as not to miss it. Thanks go out to, z4dsun and vachss

We are planning to go to both parks on March 29th. More details will follow in a few days. I just wanted to post the event and gauge interest. There is a $15.00 dollar fee to enter Joshua Tree, so bring cash.

Just to wet your taste buds.

My wife the Botany professor (and the reason why I end up driving out to all these desert flower locations) informs me that by 3/29 the Borrego wildflower bloom will likely be over (though cacti should be flowering by then). I'm sorry to be a downer here, but the desert bloom is brief and I don't want folks to be disappointed.

All input is good. I figure that what we miss in Anza we will see on Joshua tree. Did not want to plan for Easter weekend and this was the next date.

I'm in. As a reminder to everyone, Joshua Tree is a national park and has a $15 enterence fee. Remember to bring cash.

I don't think I can make this one. The wife and I are supposed to be in Vegas for the weekend. I'll let you know if those plans fall through...

I don't think we are going to Vegas after all...might be able to make it next weekend!
Put me down as probable! :)

All right then.

We will meet at the Mobil station at the 15 and the 76 at 7:45 leaving at 8:00 on Saturday March 28th.

We will stop at Dudlys for a break, then on to Borrego arriving about 10:30.

Go out to the Borrego Springs State park head quarters and check out the displays and then go back into town for lunch about 11:30-12:00. It has been suggested to have lunch at Red Ocotillo. I am in the process of finding out if there is room for 22-30 of us (TBD).

Leave Borrego about 1:00 -1:30 and on out to Joshua Tree National Park. There is a $15.00 fee to enter the park. Cash or Check with your SSN# is the only method of payment no credit cards There will be a gas stop in Mecca before heading out to the park. We arrive Joshua at about 2:45 . When we pay the entry fee there is a display area. Speed limit in the park is 35 mph and there is over 90 miles of roads in the park with many pull outs, some dirt and some paved. I doubt that 11 + cars will fit in all pullouts.

jUST SO YOU CAN'T SAY I DID NOT TELL YOU. HAHA

CAUTION: IT IS SPRING AND THE CRITTERS ARE OUT. EVERYTHING FROM ANTS THE SIZE OF A Z1 TO SNAKES, BEES (BRING MEDS IF NEEDED) AND SCORPINS.

YOUR PERFECTLY CLEAN CARS WILL ATTRACT MANY SUICIDE BUGS. THERE WILL BE A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THSE BUGS.

Expect a very nice warm day. Sunscreen, water, hats, cameras, batteries, TWO WAY RADIOS ON CHANNEL 5-1.

Hi guys,
I know it has been a while since I posted, but work has been having an issue about going on this forum and I don't always get on at night. So, Kathy and I are free this weekend and we would like to join you all in this drive. Of course, as it has happened in the past, I can't guarentee like I used to do. PLEASE don't make too much fun about my bungie cord. Will explain later on that one.
See you at the meeting point. :driving:

The weatherwomen said it was going to snow and I did not believe her. :P

Hope you can make it. I still have a CD for you. I hope the CD still works, I will check to make sure. it now has traveled over 12 k miles. :driving:

what route are we taking from Borrego to Joshua Tree? Just curious...
I just drove up from Glamis on 86 by the Salton sea last weekend!
My son, Michael (the one you met in Vegas) broke and dislocated both bones in his forearm the first day we got there! Besides that it was a great trip!

My wife thanks you for the pictures of the desert blooms. Makes her homesick. Would love to go on drive with you all and see the flowers. She say's don't miss the peaches & pears when there in bloom in Little Rock. Rich you have to take a picture of the bungie cord. We are both thinking it is holding down the trunk. :driving:
