3.0i hot boot floor, normal????

Did a 70 mile drive on the weekend and last 30miles I was pushing the car on B roads, accelerating out of hairpins etc. The boot was full and when I unloaded it I was surprised how hot everything in there felt and the boot floor forward of the battery compartment felt pretty warm.

It's a 3.0i E85 manual, I've had it 8 years and tracked it a bit (with an empty boot!) but never noticed heat in the boot before. Is this normal?

Even with DSC on I can't imagine heat transferring so much from rear brakes, I wouldn't imagine the Diff could get so hot so assuming it's from the exhaust perhaps? Cars has had a minor seep from the Diff/driveshaft seal for a while but not aware of any other issues, rattles etc in this area

Thanks for any advice

Check the rear Exaust heat shield

Thanks Umfaan, had a look but can't see anything obvious although difficult to see much as it's lowered. Will jack it up over the weekend and have a better look. Is there a particular heatshield that can go?

Is the boot floor heating up common or definitely suggests an issue?

Cheers

Well if you look in the right side of the boot lid you will see a triangular recess. This is designed for our cousins over the pond to contain an internal release handle so that kidnap victims can escape.
Being thoughtful and efficient German types, it obviously makes sense that they designed the boot floor and exhaust to prevent these victims from succumbing to hypothermia before they had a chance to effect their escape.

Exactly….that’s was my thought..keep them wam.

The Fixings on the Rear silencer heat shield often weaken and the owner removes it to stop rattles.
Yes check it’s still there when you Jack it up.

Good point, hadn't thought of the underfloor heating benefit!

Had the car 8 years and haven't noticed heat before or removed any heat shields, couldn't see anything missing when I jacked it but will get garage to have a proper look, thanks for advice.
