2013 Scotland Meets - Planning and Discussion Thread

Hmmm. Got Zedfest on the 27th July, but that should be ok. Depends on how early in August we're talking about - too far in and we'll be away, though there's still some flexibility in my plans... So instead we'll find a way of coming up in June. Do 't mind me, I'll keep an eye and get to whichever one we can make. Or maybe both

Skye trip weekender. Up on Friday. Back Sunday. Loop drive on Sat similar to Applecross.

Missed out on Scottish trips in 2012 so need to make amends. Would Cayman be welcome if we brought both cars & kids (Craig can vouch for them!) ?

Sounds like a good idea Tony...and yes,i can vouch for ur kids, well behaved female petrolheads(so to speak),and are good at helping with Raffles etc
Also,it would be cheeky if Ally said z4's only, given he now has a 3er,lol.

Skye/applecroos sounds like a plan,Adamski :driving:

Yes,very busy times,Bing,...i have the National, zedfest(if can make it)penciled in,and Goodwood fos all in July..plus the BMW carclub festvl in August(if i am not worn out with meets by then, haha).
Oh yeah, and my wifes planning a weekend away in August/Sept for my 40th(which is in December),doing a weekend in uk,so plan to go when weather ok(ish)

May looks reasonably clear at present. In June I am not free the weekend of the 8th and 9th, otherwise dates are reasonably flexible. Re the Skye meet, it really depends on what dates are being planned, but would really like to attend.

3rd and 4th ? Discussed this with the mob last night, Mrs B is planning on us going on holiday the weekend after, so if those are the dates then Wee Bing and I are in. For sure, confirmed, virtually there already, sorted

craig3.0, yeah, Mrs B turns 40 on the 6th July, hence why we cannot come to the National... Planning on going someplace nice for a long weekend on her birthday. At this rate I will be in an ///M before I manage to get along :D

I turn 40 in less than two weeks

Ok for a May/ June Meet the 2nd June would probably suit me the best - looking through the Scotland Meets threads it looks like we've not done the Perthshire roads for a bit - Loch Tay , Loch Rannoch ,Pitlochory ,Kenmore - is this something people would be interested in ?

I've come across some routes we could use as a basis for the day but have not got the time to recce the route before hand - if there is interest any takers for acting as lead for this one ? The distances I've seen on the routes I've found are in the 130-150 mile range.

I can't do early June I'm afraid (in Canada) but don't let that stop a meet !

July/August or early Sept should be OK for us though - unlikely to make the National Meet though due to another commitment that weekend.

Only real issue with Skye / Applecross in August is the mighty midge - not to be underestimated !

Is anyone else aware of Applestock - mid May - music festival at Applecross which sounds fun but probably too close now to organise.

No sorry - we head off on 25th May !

Could do 19th May but that doesn't sound like it will suits others - no matter.

I am OK for May so far, or for the first weekend in June, but the weekend of 8 and 9 June is out for me. Perthshire roads sounds good to me :)

I need to confirm availability of campsites etc - which I'm working on.

First camp site wouldn't take a group booking (their loss - clearly no sign of economic down turn in the camping sector if you can afford to refuse business) - so I'm looking for an alternative.

Plan to recce the route in June. August is still my preferred time do to the run. WIll start a thread once I've recce'd the route

EDIT - should have mentioned all of the above refers to Skye run

Perthshire -2nd June - Proposal

Some spare time this afternoon - so looked into it and I could run a one day run 2nd June around Perthshire - Distance 150-70 miles Lunch at one of the Hotels on the North of the Route (Moulin Inn, Loch Rannoch Hotel tbc ) . it would take in most of the loch roads in the area with a start probably in Stirling or Dunblane.

If this is of interest to people I'll move it into a separate thread .

We probably did sections of what I've planned with A11y back on the first meet in April 2010 but other than A11y and myself I think most from that first outing have moved on.

If people want to get out before this date then no worries - but I won't be able to lead or set the route up - if it is earlier - someone is welcome to the route Ive plotted if it speeds up the organising.

Not a West Coast Blockbuster this one but it doesnt use any of the entry points to the west coast to much so keeps them clear for other runs.

Cheers

Rob
