Shame they limit themselves to cars advertised in their own classifieds, but it doesn't look too bad. Just a bit leggy and without heated seats.

Just been scrolling through the five pages of comments following on this piece on Pistonheads. Most are very supportive of the Zed but one or two comments are a bit unfair IMHO:

Currently rescuing a similar one in black with only 54k on it. Previous owner got frightened by a £3.5k quote when the EPS packed up. As you can imagine, couple of hours and £295 and it’s sorted. Few paint work blemishes but a lovely engine and box. Non heated sports seats too. I love a nice 2.2. Pretty sure the box is a closer ratio one. Not ideal for long motorway trips but I’m having fun on the Norfolk byways and still seeing 40+ mpg.
Suspect it’ll need a new home in the spring which could be a sad parting.

Be nice to see the project as it develops

How do you manage 40+mpg from your 2.2, I'm only getting 31.7 mpg and I drive everywhere like an old fart.

Norfolk is flat!
Maybe the low mileage helps too?
And a healthier vanos?

There was an article I saw about a million years ago about the winner of an economy race who was a rally driver. The trick was to get up to speed fairly rapidly and then hold it. A lot of the old farts I see take about a week to get up to 40mph so will be in the lower gears for far longer than necessary.

(My 2.5si will top 40mpg during steady state cruising on the motorway[1].)

[1] For EZ: A motorway is a long, straight multi-lane carriageway without tractors or sharp corners around the edge of fields.

What no sugar beet in the middle?
Where’s the fun in that?

Mines only done around 61000 and the Vanos was changed when Grumpy Owl owned it. Must be as I always have the roof down and get lots of drag.
