So, a facelift, 2.0, m-sport, heated seats, good condition, circa 50k miles.... for an absolute max of £7k.

paulgs1000 said:Sounds like you have come to a decision - for what it's worth I bought my 2.0l with economy in mind and find that even though I use all the performance it's still manageable in terms of petrol costs and if I want to drive like I'm driving Miss Daisy it's amazingly frugal but I don't keep to that now I'm retired (early) - no commuting for me!
The advice on the Sport option (Facelift) is very true - M sport seats steering wheel suspension and wheels makes my Zed very special - can be a bit harsh if you're not used to it though and although I don't have experience of it, the SE option might make a better commuter being slightly 'softer' and still be fun for the rest of the time. Tyres are also more expensive if you go for the staggered wheels (wider at back and lower profile all round) of the sport though cheap options are available.
Even though you think you might be pushing hard - hold out for the specs you want - there are lots out there - and for the record - I know the 6 cylinder cars are wonderful but I love my 2.0l and enjoy being able to use all of its performance more of the time - in my opinion they are still very much a drivers car and exploring the performance and capabilities, as safely as possible, on the road, is what its all about for me as it is for many forum members - good luck with your search.

I agree I think the 2.0i has almost a 6 cylinder sound. I've owned three V6/I6 cars so am not deluding myself too much.
It's a good motor, quick enough for the road in almost all cases. It's very strong in 3/4 due to being quite torquey, you don't have to rev the nuts off it. And if you want to go really quick, get a bike lol.
I'm worried about my fuel economy though, 32mpg average![]()

It's impossible to drive fast in 2.0  even 2.5 feels slow unless slow unless you keep the revs close to the red line
