1M. Anyone looking

I am feeling the lure of the 1M getting stronger. Honestly didn't think I would but going to have a look at the weekend. Back seats are becoming an issue so thinking 1 or a used V8 M3. Anyone have any feedback from either car?

i cant lie, i desperatly want one, the only thing that stops me is the z4m s/c is quite litterally the most fun ive had on four wheels..... id love one!!!!

i did. have a deposit down on 1 of the last cars form synter leicester. Believe it is their last car to be due in December.

I saw the physical on saturday at Goodwood FOS and was very underwhelmed by the interior. The z4m wins by miles. The leather was simply not like the nappa M of the z4 and unfortunately i don't think cloth seats can be ordered. In all, if you like 1m interiors or rather you think 1m interiors are ok then it shouldn't bother you but it is no z4 in interior or looks....

The car just looks weird. it may look contemporary and squat and aggressive now. but do you really think that you will like the way it looks in 5 years? does it have any sort of timeless quality about the way it looks? prolly not, but then neither did the e30 m3 which it was supposedly patterned after. If the driving experience is what you are looking for without any consideration of looks, go for it......

I am beginning to doubt myself..... letting go of one of the last great m engines of all time,....

One is a proper coupe that looks like a sports car should, the other is a small beefed-up saloon, so I'd stick with the Z4MC unless you need 2 small rear seats.

khooni, you wasn't driving through Cockfosters in the Boxster Spyder on Sunday by any chance was you?

I am so tempted i think they are fantastic seen a white one and orange one i so want one but with the way things are in the world at moment i cant bring myself to signing up for one,

it gets fab reviews. But somehow, I just could not care less about a pumped up 1 series with lightly blown 135 engine, selling for silly money. Even if the chassis is superbly developped and shows M division to be back on form, it has not intrinsic appeal to me.

- its not good loooking or provoking like the original E30
- its not especially powerfull for a twin blower
- its no lightweight

For all its foibles the Z4M looks and feels special. Tjhat ain't going to go away either.

100% correct....! The 1M drives great (if you read the reviews), but when I saw it at Goodwood I really did not like the look of the car. Like you; I don't like the whole set-up of the 1M (engine, looks, etc). For me a 4 year old Z4M feels and looks more special the a brand new "overpriced" 1 series. If I would need 4 seats in a M sportscar then I would go for used M3. For me a 1M is nothing special...

+1

Back on form for BMW M chassis on the 1M... but were they ever off form?

I think the 1M is built on hype. I can't see what is so appealing about it really. But that is just my 2p.

Give me a V8 M3, or an M3 CSL... or a Z4 M and a 135Ci...

I just couldn't justify that much money on something that is a huge departure for M car engines... I'm sure it'd blow anyone away driving it, but in my experience, given 3 months ownership, it'll feel dull and just like a very fast diesel with a more interesting exhaust note!

Lack of focused cars. The CSL should be a re-occuring theme for coupe and stop people to systematically flock to Porsche for serious track cars. New Z4M is hardly a track car. X5/X6M is horrible (whilst still a very good marketing exercise).

I can't understand why they do not differentiate M car which are great by all means but not so good as road going racers with a hard core breed to satisfy the putrists. Surely the development costs are not that high if based opn exixting models and "halo" models can't harm your brand exactly.

The Porsche explore every niche within 1 model range like the 911 or Cayman, whilst annoying is bloody clever. I am generalising of course but look at it this way:
Mr mid life crisis thats always wante a 911 get a Carrera 4
Mr bragging rights gets a Turbo
Mr track get a GT3/RS
Mr nutter get a GT2/RS
Mr Collector gets a spyder or whatever.

AND they're all happy and Porsche sells loads of cars.

Its as if BMW are trying to emmulate somewhat Audi by making M too mainstream. Taht fine by me, but please come out with some hard core models too! :x

I personally quite like the styling of the 1M.... but then i also secretly like the Focus Rs!

But then as it has the same engine as the Z435is if i had a choice between the 1M and the Z4 i'd rather have the Z4.... looks more special.. even if it is slower around a track... it will probably be just as quick in a straight line... which is more useful for me.

As i said before the only thing that i do not like about the 1M is the engine. I realise why they chose it but i just do not feel it's worthy of an M badge. The rest of the car i like, the driving experience is apparently very good, the looks are appealing to me and the price isnt bad if you go for a basic car, which i would.

I have no use for a 4 seater at the moment and i'm planning to keep the MC for quite a few more years but as a future used car buy the 1M looks pretty damn good.

Me thinks the better buy is the z4 3.5is . Prolly cheaper as a used buy now if one doesn't mind the push/pull DCT gearbox (which I actually prefer to paddles)...

The interior is loads better and gues what , the top goes down too. The only downside is the lack of rear seats. But if you need 4 seats surely a newly used m3 coupe or saloon would be the better buy.

All this talk, I am sure when the dealer calls me up to spec the 1M, I may just succumb.........

no. that wasn't me. maybe on saturday.

No, I've tried the engine in other models and prefer the N52, let alone our S54 beasties. When they make one that revs to 8k, has six throttle bodies and sounds :trampoline: roof down, I'll get one.

Plus the 1M is not a sports car, you sit high up in the saloon.

I really like the concept, as I always felt the E92 M3 was just toooooo heavy (I've also owned an E60 M5, another wonderful N/A engine!), definitely on small tracks... but think it would have been complete if they've have shoehorned the 4.0 V8 in the 1M... mild tune twin-turbo will be stonking for the average driver, but no matter what they do it'll never act like a N/A M engine.

My money would go on another fully loaded used E92/90 M3

I am going to throw a cat amongst the pigeons - if you are 6' 4" like me and need 4 genuine seats and an ///M car, you have to be mad to consider the M3 or the 1M... E60/61 M5 is the only way and the more I think about it, the more I am in love with the V10... Probably the greatest engine ///M has ever developed...

You're right about the V10, it's HUGELY impressive especially twinned with the SMG gearbox... I've not owned any other car that makes you giggle everytime :) Only thing is, running costs are substantially more compared with the M3 (Fuel & Depreciation.... tyres are much of a muchness tbh)

Facelift M5's are going for c£27k used . . . bang for buck they are awesome

Its a lot of weight up front and the SMG is out of date. Ridiculous power though and a great handler (I've never tried it). There is a really cool Hamman "widebody"version of the M6 too. I'm 6.4" and have no probs in the Z.

M3 has 4 seats no?

E39 M5 is lovely and cheap and the ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing (sounds like a DTM at full bore). If I absolutely had to have 4 doors that would be the one for me.
