Has anyone got walkie talkies then!? (Just read the Cruise Etiquette Guide!)... If so, which type?

By the way, does this mean you're interested in tagging along, or are you just asking out of curiosity? :)

I use PMR's for off road. Very useful for short distance work. Instructions between winch bitch and driver. As spokey say can be distracting in convoy and get taken over by inane chatter and then CB is much better. Useful though between lead and sweeper.

Wonder if a PMR counts as a phone and constitutes an offence if used while driving - doubt it?

ANY hand-held communication device can fall foul of the new laws. Although they could do you in the past, they've just made this a specific offence.

What gets my goat up, is the way they say it means you're not in full control of the vehicle if you're having to use a phone, however it's perfectly safe for the police drivers to use their radios and comms systems when they're driving. Exemptions you see - doesn't matter how well trained a member of the public is, they will never be as good as a police driver, although I've seen some really bad police driving from their 'trained' drivers.

BTW, I asked if having a conversation to a passenger was against the law, and when they said no, I pointed out that my passenger was deaf and I'd be using sign language :P

You're probably right and as with all these things it depends on the mood the officer is in if it matters or you get let off. Still all is better than my old days on the road, when I used to try to read the road atlas on the passenger seat... I always thought that was safer than having it across the steering wheel.

Yes mate, i thought id PM'd you, didnt you get it? Im a 'Maybe' im afraid as there are a few old uni friends making an appearance that weekend - should be able to sneak out Sat AM/Earlyish PM :)

I'm a no sadly now.

Now got to work - which annoys me on two counts (football and this drive).

:x

Would be ok if we came along at 9am to say hello and have a look at all the nice cars. We can't come on the run as we're already committed to doing other things that day.

Where are you from Eunice? Must be close to the start if you can just drop by to look? I'm Shenstone, Lichfield so no more than 10 miles down the road. ....and of course everyone would welcome you coming for the start

Thanks guys were from Nottingham and were going to a place near Leek - so we're not taking the most direct route but it'll be nice to meet everybody and another excuse to drive the car :driving:

Look forward to meeting

Can I please ask that all the z4-forumers who are coming on this cruise read this, especially if this is your first time on a cruise.

Please make sure you have cash with you.

Please make sure you fill up when you get to the starting point, it saves time when we're leaving and you WILL use more fuel than you're used to using. I don't have any fuel stops planned. Don't ask me if you'll need to fill up, as a poke in the eye with a pointed stick often offends.

Please be there as early as you can but no later than 09:30. Ideally, I'd like at least some of us to be on the road before 10AM.

I will be making a go / no go decision at about lunch time tomorrow (Friday). :headbang:

Interesting - the roads are already drivable around here despite another couple of inches and Saturday is scheduled to be a cloudless day :driving: .
Of course much depends upon what happens in the next 24 hours of melt or more snow.

I can take a run out Friday AM and have a scout around if needs be.

Sounds like a plan, I'm not intending a bit of snow to stop us coming up. As long as the roads are open and there is no more snow coming, then we'll be there. Got 7 -8" in Northampton at the moment, I couldn't get off my drive let alone out of the village LOL.

cj10jeeper, that would be pretty cool!

After chatting with the lunch venue pub, I reckon that unless something dramatic happens it's more likely that the cruise will go ahead. They've had almost no snow, so if all else fails, we can go there and take over the pub for the day.

Well today has been a big melt around here. I actually took my newly qualified daughter out to teach her to drive on snow and found difficulty getting any road with enough on to be able to break traction anywhere  Did find some in Sutton Park though. It's fun watching a new driver steer the wrong way in a skid and worsen it

In terms of the cruise, unless as you say something dramatic happens then I can't see why we'd not go ahead and later adapt the route if we find any roads to be still slippy up in the rural areas.

No snow beyond a few mm dusting overnight here and the roads are very clear. In fact looking at puddles in the street I don't think it really froze overnight and the melt continues.

Where are you?
