07 Feb 09: Magical Mystery Tour

No snow beyond a few mm dusting overnight here and the roads are very clear. In fact looking at puddles in the street I don't think it really froze overnight and the melt continues.

Where are you?

Cambs. ... But apparently Beds is screwed, too. Apparently the M1 is buggered. I'm not worried about the cruise itself, it's the getting there. :(

Ah - that makes sense if you are that far SE.
I think we can expect cold and grey with possibly mist/light fog for Saturday here (makes it sound like and English Summer's day...lol)

I'm in Northampton, the only thing that'll get about here on anything except mainroads is a 4x4, lucky I've got one. It may well stop snowing and clear up for the morning, I'll watch the weather forecasts tonight, and get out and have a look at the M1 early in the morning to see what it's like. Spokey, do you want to give me your number, I can call you v early tomorrow with a roads forcast from my way?.

Cheers,

Marcus.

I'm inclined to go ahead, albeit under a different model. I probably won't be travelling up tonight, I'll be braving an early start in the morning tomorrow. Is every OK with potentially a later start?

A later start would help me but I'd have to know soon and the weather seems to change quickly at the moment, I was intending to leave at around 7am.
It seems safer just to wait until later in the year, despite there not being much snow up here in Newcastle/Darlington.

Edit: I hit post and got your text at the same time  I'll let you know what I decide on in a couple hours.

Spokey - can you drop me some details? Obviously only just seen this thread, and as luck may have it, I'm currently working in Nottingham and so won't be far from here at all. Have a bit of a big night out planned this evening, but if my head isn't too fuzzy first thing, I might make a lastminute run down to meet you guys and come along for some/all of this run :D

Well it's 3c in the start area and the roads around here are not only clear, the main roads are actually bone dry and it's thawing the rest quickly. I'm sure there will be some snowy scenes off the beaten track, but should make for a great run, with due respect for the roads.

My plan is to be there at 8.30, so I'll be in Starbucks :) Damn this means getting up at 8.00 on Saturday.

Herminator - stop whining and get down here.... BTW do you need me to change that steering wheel for you??

 You going to do it at 8am? :P

Looks like the weather isn't too bad, so I better fill my car up....
Need to work out how long it will take too, and try and get the satnav to take a sensible route, it was trying to take me a weird route between Newcastle and Boro yesterday.

BTW. anyone got a post code/full address for the start point?

I can if needs be we can do it. Let me know so I can get some tools lined up

Route. Assuming M1 headed South then you only have to leave at the A38, well north of Derby. Follow that to Derby for about 10 miles and keep on it (Ring Road) headed South through 3 islands towards Burton Birmingham still the A38. As you leave Derby and the dual carriage way settles down to 2 lanes you need the next island after the Findern turn off on the A38/A50 junction
Real easy

I'll be going for the dirtiest car there award. It's very salt sprayed at the moment  Should be there around 9am...

Well I've washed mine today, but I bet it'll be filthy by the time I arrive tomorrow.

Does anyone know if there's a jetwash at that service station

im tempted to come but appreciate i wont get a meal etc, but thats cool. never saw this thread until the other day as i magically seem to miss the sticky stuff :?

9am in lichfield? .... against etiquette just to turn up ?

Mine's washed and tucked up for the night...
It was actually sunny late afternoon and despite only 2c good to get out for half an hour. Guess it will be dirty by the end of Saturday
