North York Moors

Well, after owning my zed since November and promising myself a road trip, I decided last minute to have a few days away last week. The wife had a couple of days off work so after doing a couple of jobs on Thursday morning, I made the dreaded call home to say pack a bag we are going away in an hour. After the shouting had stopped we threw some clothes, smellies and an iron into the boot and we were off.

We had no accomodation booked and we headed off up the M62. I decided to use Scarborourgh as the base and after the motorway we hit the A roads for the 40 or so miles to Scarborough. The roads were long and straight giving a chance to stretch the legs of the zed with good overtaking oppourtunities. We arrived at our destination about 4.30 and parked up on the front, we went into a pub to quench our thirst and look on the web for some accomodation. A pint and a half of local Alpine lager was £2.46, I knew then it had been a good choice.

After we sorted some nice accomodation, a meal and a few drinks, bed was calling. The next day we were up bright n early and decided to head off starting on the front.

Then we headed off along the front heading towards Whitby. The weather wasnt too bad and with the roof down we hit some nice roads. We headed off onto the B roads for some fun

We headed off up towards RAF flyingdales and the roads were quietish, just enough traffic for me to blast past with the wind in our hair.

Then off for some more driving before a spot of lunch. The miles just clocked up and the car didnt miss a beat. It was my first long trip and as with any used car you always worry about reliability but the car performed great. After many more miles we ended up in the heartbeat village for lunch

After lunch in the Aidensfield arms it was time to head back over to Scarborough

We stayed up there til Sunday where we had some lovely drives out around Robin Hood Bay, Whitby, Bridlington, Helmsley, Pickering etc. Some lovely roads and well worth a visit.

Yep - a nice area to stay and have a drive around. Did you get to drive around Oliver's Mount racetrack? - unbelievably tight with kerbs - don't know how the m/bikes race at speed. Fish and Chips at Whitby? Fair trip from your place. . .

Keep posting up the photos and accounts - nice one - that's what the Zed is all about

:driving:

Cheers Paul, stopped for fish n chips near the harbour in Whitby, very nice and had a drive around Olivers Mount on the trip home, it was only 5 mins drive from our hotel :driving:

I have been in the Fylingdales Radar, many years ago when I worked for BT, they told us that they have to switch it off sometimes to clean the dipoles on the faces and a bloke abseils down the front to do it and since each face chucks a Megawatt out they would cook him alive

Shhh, it's a secret the roads are good oop North, glad you enjoyed the run and gave the Zed some exercise. :driving:

Its a lovely part of the country and there are some great roads between Scarborough and Whitby.
We stayed just outside Robin Hoods Bay for a few days last year.

Sounds like a great trip. They are some of ny favourite roads to drive in the UK.
Good to hear you enjoyed the zed - that's when you really appreciate what a fun car it is

Did that trip in the the coupe last year. Some very nice roads up there.

Going to do it again this summer.

I don't know what it is but when u put the roof down on roads like that it is just a totally different experience. Even at 40mph you feel as if your going an awful lot faster.

I'm working up near Whitby on and off and there are some great roads over the 'moors'.

Must take the Z4 up there soon

Did you get chance to get on the B1257 between Stokesley and Helmsley ? One of the finest rolling roads in the area.
Jon

That road is called the Helmsley TT because the bikers love it , if you are going to do it try picking a time when it's quiet , not bank holidays , or weekends, usually busy early evening too, rode it a few times when I had my Kawasaski :D

I can see why the bikers enjoy it, I stumbled across it last year. Glad I had the sat nav showing me what was coming up next when I got to the brow of a few hills, or I'd have been in the field.

I drove that road the other day in my A3 and it really is a superb road but hard to pass slow moving traffic as there is always a slow Rover/Volvo etc on it.
