M market watch

With 80k+ on it i will already cocked and primed for a £10,000 epic rear end fail....

Beautiful looking thing though..

I guess it depends where you price point is ?

If you have 15k-20k then there isnt a Porsche worth having for the same kind of money that you can pick up an MC for..

The cayman would probably be the best in the budget, but pre 2009 cars have the crap engine,so not worth considering imho..

Very true, but must come a point where x amount for a 7-9 year old car is not worth paying for even if you can't afford or don't want to pay more for a newer similar car?
Must admit the only previous gen Cayman I would consider is the Cayman R. Think on a 2011 plate prices are heading South at the moment due to the GTS/GT4.
But would anyone consider a new 2.7 Cayman over an old Z MR/MC? At £28k, that's only £11k less than a brand new poverty spec 2.7.

Oh yea....

There is no way i would be paying high 20k's for a Z4M coupe, whatever the mileage or colour...Although I think that a certain amount of money could be retained in a coupe though, because of the rarity value and desirability....

A newer cayman or 997 will still be costing you £100 every time you open the door...

The 996/7 will never go the way of the 993/964.....People are just too wary of the potential for bankruptcy from a relatively cheap car..

I think a lot of that is over played by internet forums....there are many, many 997's that have done 100k plus miles without problem. A mate of mine has had two of them, both bullet proof...but he hasn't felt the need to tell the world that everything is ok. Personally I think buying a decent £25k 911 is a pretty solid bet, it won't drop much below £20k in any condition.

Yeap... I agree...

The figures are approx 1 in 8 will suffer, but Hartech reckon that all engines will suffer to some degree, some will go on above 100k,some blow themselves to bits at 30k...Its just bad design, and the bigger the cylinders the worse the problems...

Its a lottery........And with rebuilds costing approx £10,000 then it s chance i wouldnt want to take...

Really? What sort of prices have you seen R's at?

I've followed them for the past few years and they haven't really moved from the £40k mark.

I haven't looked since Christmas though.

When I last looked they were £45k+, now failling below £40k. Cheapest I have seen was £37k. I don't look too closely however. My feeling was that they were definatley cheaper on average this time around - think I was last looking 6+months ago. Also have heard it mentioned that prices are softening - much easier to negotiate when buying one. The new car is simply better even than the lightweight R - isn't the standard Cayman now as light or if not lighter than the R? Takes away the "R" ness :)

Just had a look at Porsche.com used cars and must admit still over £40k sticker price anyway

I think these will be a collectors car like the Spyder.

The one at redline has been for sale for ages and that is sub £40k now, when it first went up it was £44k.

They won't change the springs, you would have to negotiate this.

Yes the wheels make the ride harsher, but they look much better than the 224's

So I wonder what happens if one of the after market springs breaks during the warranty period? Will BMW source H&R springs (which are apparenlty fitted) or end up replacing all four with OEM at their cost?

On another note, is the Interlagos Coupe at Sytner Nottingham known? Looks like that has a few mods too -at least tinted front windows and carbon wrap on handles

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/z4m-coupe-3-2-2dr/3752045

They would replace with OEM, which could cause a problem unless they replace all 4 which I doubt. Anybody looking at this car should ask that question and get the answer in writing. Although I've yet to hear of H&R springs failing.

I used to really like the R but to be honest it looks a bit crap compared to the new Cayman.

I think that comparing the Z4MC to a new Cayman is missing the point a little though. It might be a direct replacement for some, but the Z4MC was the last M power car to have a normally aspirated straight six, the last with the S54, was produced in very low numbers and has competition pedigree too. Not guaranteed to make it a classic by any means but it means there are buyers out there who fancy owning it that wouldn't even consider the newer offering from Porsche (or any other manufacturer for that matter).

Sytner have obviously decided this is going to go one way which is why they've been buying up private sale stock. Pretty unusual for a major franchise dealer to start buying up 7 year old cars don't you think? They might be left with egg on their faces yet but let's see.

Maybe. Cornering the market (although an exaggeration to use that phase :) ) can work. They're the only BMW franchise dealer seemingly trying to do it - and particularly the Nottingham dealer pushing up the prices.
I will keep touching base with them anyway.
I received an email from another Sytner dealer (leicester) asking if I'd be interested in one of the Nottingham cars - the interlagos one.
I know from past experience if a dealer cannot sell a car in a time frame then it goes to another dealer to try to sell. I assume this only applies to dealer in the same franchise (ie,Sytner dealers etc), so given time they might drop. Probably too early for that yet with any of the current stock.

As a previous owner I am happy to play a waiting game. If I lose out then so be it. Or might be tempted to go cheap (ie private and high miles - they do handle the miles well).

Another low mile roadie here.

That's just around the corner from me. They're trying to stock a lot of Z4M's. I think they've also got a Z3MR in at the moment because there was one parked outside there yesterday.

Autotrader seems to have exploded with Ms in the last couple of days.
SOme of those have been hanging around for quite some time too - such as the silver Coupe at Mayfair and the red Coupe.
Closest car to me is 154 miles away. Makes me laugh, Devon/Cornwall has the right environment for these but none come up for sale down here.

Has anyone been to look at silver MC at Mayfair? It does seem to have been for sale for a good few weeks now.
