E89 Market watch

Having had an earlier 35iS don’t think I could pay 27k for a bit newer one, as they didn’t really change much. To close to G29 money

I suppose it's a case of "if you don't ask you don't get" - or maybe eternal optimism!

Yeh - seems a bit punchy, lot's of similar on offer for £5k less (or more as private sales).

It's likely to be one of those that get's repriced over the coming weeks. Or maybe the seller isn;t too interested in actually making a sale.

It's an outlier.

But, pricing wise it probably does sit at the top of the scale for a 18i - it has the good options, auto box, low miles, FBMWSH, nice clean unmolested example. So from a desireability perspective it ticks all the boxes.

Thats an understatement, someone trying their luck, needs to drop by £6k minimum or its a waste of an advert no matter how well specced that car is

When I had mine up at £12k I had no interest whatsoever. Now at £11k the phone hasn't stopped. So I deduce from that £11k is acceptable money for a good 18i.
The one above has good spec, yes, and is very low mileage but I see that at £12k max. Making it nearly eight grand overpriced. There is another one which has been on AT for a good while (private sale). Started at £13,750, now at £12,250 and still on there!

I'm not so sure it's £6k overpriced.

Narrow your search to under 40k miles cars - only a few out there, and the cheapest are older / less well optioned.

I would value it at £17k dealer (with warranty) or about £15.5 private sale.

It's a few years younger than yours Pondy, lower miles, FMDBMW SH, not been messed with, has the auto box, has the nav.

You’ve reached the correct ‘commodity’ pricing

It does seem a little overpriced but its worth a bit more than a grand more than yours.
Its 3 years newer, slightly less miles and has idrive

The calls you are getting, is that from eBay or have you got it up on AT now as well?

eBay. Someone was supposed to come and look tomorrow but he cried off, for whatever reason!

I have a few people who were waiting on him, as he contacted first. We shall see.

Yes fair enough. Forgot about it being a very late one. Not sure whether an Auto commands a premium in the N20?

What I did notice in the pics though was there was no auto start/stop button. Was this something that was done away with on later models or did autos not have it.

Auto was quite a bit more expensive so yes it commands a premium.

AFAIK the stop start on the ZF8HP required a different variant of box which I believe was never fitted to the E89…

Autos always commands a small premium on most premium / luxury cars, unless it’s something like a 911 GT3 or the like.

Idrive is the nav/multimedia system.

It also commands a premium - from memory it was something silly like £2k extra when originally speccing up the car.

Obviously not worth £2k more now, but likely 'something'

Well things must have changed over the last 30 years!
I was always under the impression that 'optional extras' are worth nothing on a used car; only potentially make it easier to sell against an equivalent without them. The buyer's mindset of getting something for nothing.

I still don't understand the demand for the i-drive on the E89. They are 2009 technology and don't think they were ever upgraded during the life cycle of the car. I could be wrong (it happens occasionally!) IMHO they make the cars seem really old now. One of main things I didn't like about my 2008 E92 was the antiquated i-drive.

Isn't the old i-Drive super easy and relatively cheap to add aftermarket CarPlay/Android Auto too though?

I think for those who have some understanding of these things some options as you suggest are not worth much..

Interior trim apart from maybe fabric to leather change
Comfort packs
Service / connectivity packs /apps
Auto light packages
Heated steering wheel
Run flat tyres

Others that have a value
Modern auto / DSG box
iDrive especially now with easy Carplay upgrades
19" alloys
MSport packaging / styling
Premium audio

Those that have value but probably not recognised at the time
PDC
Extended bluetooth
Wind diffuser
Heated seats

Back
Top Bottom
