I felt like the car was now safe enough for me to have a proper drive through the Oxfordshire countryside and see what it was all the fuss was about - and this was the point that changed everything for me. The engine, the noise, the roof down - I just had this moment where I said "why didn't I get one of these years ago??".
When I test-drove mine, the salesman had a slightly different revelation as I ran it up to 8,000rpm on motorway slip road!I had that same realisation the first time I had an unaccompanied drive in an M - I just knew I had to have one in my life and more than 6 years later it still feels special every drive.
You've improved it plenty already - if you carry on like that it's going to become one of the most pampered MRs around!
That's interesting reading about your bearing shells, which looked remarkably clean for that mileage. 6 of mine were showing copper when they were replaced at 78K miles, but my car did have 7 previous keepers and that's one of the reasons I had them replaced!
I had mine done by Ross at RBM Hampshire who set up on his own in 2019 after 15 years at Sytner, and he also fitted ACL shells but standard bolts so it's reassuring to read that you got the same advice.![]()
Knowing how people like photos on here I suppose I ought to add one of my shells. TBF I have seen worse even on lower mileage cars.

Very I interesting read and impressive work. I have to replace the diff seal but that just seems to challenging for me
Yes, I was glad I had them done as mine was always intended to be a keeper.Interesting, definitely starting to show signs of wear. You timed that just right by the looks of it and I'd say money well spent. Much more along the lines of what I was expecting mine to look like.
