What have you done to your E89 today

Another couple of hours spent fettling rear brakes….cleaned the rear calipers and put some etch primer on the caliper cradles…bolted up the satin black painted BBK adapter brackets..with blue loctite and funky Swedish lock washers ..IMG_0814.jpegIMG_0815.jpegIMG_0816.jpeg

Some days it doesn't go as well as you hoped..

Used meths to wash down the caliper dust prior to looking at the front springs..

Meths dissolvedf the lacquer I used..heh ho

I'll have to take the calipers off and repaint and use a 2 pack lacquerIMG_0830.JPG

I’ve just purchased a touch up pen for the same job. Any advice on the polishing/finishing stage?
I didn’t use a pen ( I used paint and tiny brushes to almost drop the paint in) but I guess the principles are the same.
I built the chips up in layers, allowing each to cure for a day or two to allow for sink back, until the level was just proud.
I then wet sanded (by hand) them down to be flat and essentially level and invisible with the adjacent paint.
I think I went sequentially from 1200- 1500 - 2000-2500-3000 grits. Each time you have to go out a little further than the last.
You can buy really small (1”) discs in those grades off Amazon (come as an assortment) and a little holder that the velcro on to:
Search “25mm cylindrical sanding block” and “180 pcs 1 (25mm) sanding discs hook and loop”

But, I ended up doing most of the sanding by hand with just small pieces of wet and dry because all though it’s slower, you have more control.

To finish, I polished using Menzerna ‘Cut Force Pro’ just on a small pad running on my electric drill….set as SLOW as it would possibly go…as it’s the smallest thing I have. You can’t get those really small head polishers but I don’t have one.

It just takes a very long time. Doing it al under a really bright light. Hope that helps.

The 2K lacquer used is the best. Very good application, quick drying with exceptional gloss results. It's also chemical resistant. Only down side is; once activated, you have about two days to use it.

So today my ebay purchase of a Audiotec Fischer MATCH MEC BT add in card for their DSP/amps arrived.

This little baby gives the ability for the DSP/amp outside of any interfaces to the car to stream audio in high res bluetooth from say your phone.

In addition it also allows the DSP PC based tool to access the DSP when tuning/changing stuff..rather than relying on a USB connection.

Since my Match 10 DSP/amp is buried deep inside the boot it will save leaving a trailing cable that can snag etc.

The DSP s/w allows lots of very clever tricks like deciding which input..this bluetooth or the car main input have priority..

Quite why I'll use that connection for say music at this stage if beyond me..but..

All part of the winter update program..

For late night readers..

At the time of purchase, I didn't realise it was a lifesize whale tail. It has been returned. Might just put my original one back on.
It's in the eyes of the beholder but.. that Maxton stuff looks to me really relly naff! But each to their own!
