New Springs - but questionable new ride height

Hi All,

About 2 months ago I replaced both rear springs as they both had snapped. After ringing round a few places, I swerved the dealers at £120 each including VAT for eurocar parts at £60 including VAT. I went for the sashs springs as they were the more expensive of the 2 available.
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_Z4+Roadster_2.0_2006/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/coil-spring/?627112790&1&b552fa6ce9caef7ef18262f429687804641fe17f&000073

Once I had fit them I stood back and thought the rear of the car looks high. I appreciate that they are new springs, so I thought that they needed to bed. Also the car had been on ramps all day so I thought I would let everything settle and just keep my eye on them. They did lower, but not as much as I would have liked.

I didn't really think about it too much until I took it to be 4 wheel aligned, where the garage rang me and asked me if the suspension had been changed as they couldn't get it down to the height required to run the laser (or whatever they do). They did however manage to get it into the height range required to run after using every weight at their disposal.

So I thought I would come to you guys and do a bit of digging. Have I dropped a bollock here by not getting the springs from the dealer? Has anyone bought springs from eurocar parts and had any complaints? I have enclosed some pictures for you to peruse and give me your comments on.

Thank you

I'm guess its a 2.0 and a sport from the wheels.

If so you need 15 mm lower then non sport springs.

The back looks absurdly high, much more then non sport even :(

Hi what model is it you have, as the sports suspension is I believe 15mm lower than the standard non sport suspension. But yeah it looks really high to me

Edit - I was too slow as question already been asked

It is a 2006 2.0 sport. I definitely ordered the ones they said were correct for my model from eurocarparts. Where is everyone getting their springs from?

Thanks for that Wondermike. I will have a read through them now. I imagine that my only option is going to be getting them from the dealers. Looks like it is gonna be bake beans on toast for the next few weeks.

Yeah sorry about that

Maybe wait a while and get a set of Eibachs all round, do you fit them yourself?

As an alternative to OEM, Suplex Rear Coils Part No. 06229 will fit your model. They are approximately £60 each including VAT.

Thanks for that Lillywhite, I will have a look at them. Wish I had done more research now. :x

Don't think I can wait Mike. Other than looking like an off road version of a roadster, i pis*es me off knowing something isn't right. Not to mention any potential uneven tyre wear I am causing. I will however be fitting them myself, although this time round I can see it being more of a struggle.

Don't be overly concerned about uneven tire wear over the short term, even several hundred miles shouldn't have any real effect on the mileage life.

Following your thread, shame you got the wrong ones.

I have a set of springs for sale from my 2.5si sport, just changed to Eibachs, drop me a PM if you are interested in a second hand set.

Ithink all z4 exc Z4m are the same springs.

Believe me they don't. There are differences between all the models. Suplex who are a German manufacturer have two pages in their 688 page catalogue dedicated to the variants just on the Z4. It's a minefield.

Ahhh, sorry had no idea!

Look at pages 75 and 76 in this Suplex catalogue to see the variants just on the Z4 for the E85 and 86 models.

I've discovered today that my car had the wrong rear coil springs fitted just over a year ago for the previous owner. Fortunately I had a copy of the garage's invoice and they were supplied the wrong springs by Suplex and they have agreed to provide the correct ones and fit free of charge. Without this thread I wouldn't have been any the wiser. :? When having springs replaced the supplier must be provided with the last seven digits of the vehicle's VIN number to ensure the correct part number is provided.

Just an update, I am now in the possession of 2 new rear springs ordered on lillywhites recommendation from Suplex. They were a pleasure to deal with and reasonable at £121 delivered. Much better quality than the sh*t from ECP (I only have myself to blame on that one though). I might get them fitted this week and then I will post the new photos. And we can have a laugh  at the difference (Hopefully)

Nice one, Chappio. Hope to have my two rear coil springs replaced tomorrow morning. Must check with the garage this afternoon to see that they have been delivered by Suplex.
Just a thought, if you don't have any joy with ECP perhaps you could sell them on this forum since they should fit a SE model?

Jeez - never seen a Z4 as a monster truck before. You could put some tractor wheels on with that clearance!

Sorry, couldnt resist. Shame but I'm with you on replacing quickly. Once it's in your mind that something's not quite right.....
