New Springs - but questionable new ride height

Problem is if I hadn't seen this thread I wouldn't have noticed my rear was a tad high. I've had the car a year now and didn't realise my car has had replacement non Sport springs fitted but the clearance wasn't as large as that on Chappio's car.

OK, so got new set of rear springs fitted today, thought the backend looked a bit high, but thought it would settle. I have decided it isn't going to settle down by 50mm. :?
I checked the invoice from the garage, and lo and behold, find the part number relates to springs for Z4s without M technic, this is despite checking on at least 3 occasions that they would fit Sport springs - to original spec.
I telephoned the garage once home, and once I had looked online at the part number, and they will speak to the suppliers, who assured them they were the correct springs for M Sport suspension. I think the fact that the on-line catalogue shows otherwise is in my favour.
I just feel a little p***ed off, as I had stressed the M Sport Bit. :headbang:

The garage should have supplied the last seven digits of the VIN number to get the correct coil springs for M Sport suspension. In addition M Sport springs have three green (OEM) or grey (Suplex) blocks painted on halfway down the spring.
I hope the garage sorts ASAP for you. Out of interest, what make of spring was fitted?

I think they are Kilen -
The Suplex catalogue shows the 2.0i with options, as well as without, with two different springs. What are the options ? :?

interesting post & now adds substance to my recent post http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42356&p=599617#p599617
when folks post pics of their beloved the last thing they want to hear is comments on the ride height or arch clearance .
just seen so many that i was curious as to what should be the standard  .
hope the problem's are all sorted

Not sure what the 'options' are. I had spring ref: 06229 fitted and when I had a set of new tyres fitted a week ago I noticed the three grey paint markings on each spring.

This is from a while back, but explains why there are so many part numbers.

The non-M models have different spring part numbers depending on final spec, options fitted, etc.

Spring table is hidden in the ETK - under 'Parts Search - Specific - Spring Table'

for my car which is an 04 3.0 SE with MSport (as I believe they all are?) Part numbers are:

Front: 31336760622 or 3
Rear: 33536761925 or 6

... But it does ask you what options you have fitted (such as electric seats, SMG, Stereo system, Headlight cleaning)... some of those options seem to change the part numbers slightly :?

Edit: For example, screenshot here:

Thanks for that both Lillywhite and Wondermike.
Using ETK, and speaking to BMW have confirmed that the correct fitment for the Z4 2.0i Sport, with M Sport Suspension is BMW Part No: 33 53 6 761 924, which equates to the Suplex 06229, as fitted to Lillywhite's .
I have relayed this info to the garage, and am waiting to hear back, although their supplier maintains that the Kilen 51042s are the correct fitment ! :headbang:
At least I have just got the new MOT.

Suplex admitted their mistake despite supplying the springs 14 months earlier and provided the garage in Peterborough replacement springs FOC. Let's hope you finally get a similar response from Kilen. There can be no grey area in this matter.

Did you ever take an after photo Chappie ? It would be a useful comparison with your first before photo.

After my replacement springs were fitted the ride height at the rear was certainly 15mm lower. This accords to the difference between standard factory suspension and M Sport suspension. Not as low as the TIS dimension of 588mm (+/- 10mm each side) measured from bottom flange on alloy (on 18" wheels) to underside of wheel arch but to get this the car needs to be loaded with a dead load of two people each weighing 68kgs, 14kgs in the boot and a full tank of fuel!

I have eventually got the wrongly fitted Kilen standard springs replaced by original BMW Msport springs. The ride height has been lowered back to original, and the handling - which admittedly was transformed with non-broken springs, has again been transformed, and the Z is now a pleasure to drive. It does not feel as though you have to fight every road imperfection, even with the Vreds.
