Very sad to have to tell you all that Zak, our beautiful and much-loved German Shepherd Dog passed away last Friday. Mrs R and I are absolutely devastated.

We keep telling ourselves that no dog was more loved or better looked after and that he did well to live for more than 12 years.

He will continue to grace the Forum with his presence in my avatar.

Here is our last pic of him - only 2 weeks ago at his favourite place:

Know exactly how you are feeling, we said never again but couldn't resist.
Many commiserations on your loss.

So sorry to hear mate..

Done it twice with GSD's over the years and they leave a huge hole.
I couldn't even talk about losing my last GSD for around 3 months, it upset me way to much and I just didn't want another dog...

Another few months and I was scanning the GSD rescues and we ended up with another GSD.. We have now had him 5 years..
We still have all pictures of our former dogs up in our house.. You have to remember that you gave him a fantastic home and life, some are not so lucky.

It's a real tough time, nothing comes close to losing my dog to me...
My heart goes out to you...

Know exactly what you mean, my avatar is also of my lost dog - he was only just 10.

Sorry to hear, losing your dog is a truly sad time. You gave him a good life and as said, lots of dogs aren't so fortunate.

I found dog's are more loyal than most human's, understandably a sad time when you lose your best mate.

Very sorry to hear that. It's so difficult when they pass. Like you have said he was loved and looked after and I am sure he was a very happy dog that new he had a great life.

So Sorry to hear this news! As others have said, they leave such a large gap in our lives when the time comes.
Zak looks like a well cared for, lovely boy!

Very sorry to hear. We have a cocker who is like a child to us, couldn't think of how the house would feel without her running around.

Very sad, I hate losing pets. :(
I had a great german shepherd years ago with an ex, lovely lovely dog, a big softy. We split and unfortunately the dog went with her. He obviously isnt around anymore but I always wondered how long he lasted, he was 11 at the time. :(

Being a dog lover I know your pain , very sorry to hear of your loss. Unless you've owned a dog people just don't appreciate your loss. RIP Zak.

I know exactly how you feel we lost our 12 year old rottie last year 2 days before xmas,it was the worst christmas i can ever remember but 3 weeks later and we rescued another rottie odin who has helped ease the pain.

My heart goes out to you buddy and I feel your pain. It does get better but it's a long and slow path initially.

We lost our GSD x Rotty, Bailey on the 15th Oct, just over 2wks ago.
Our decision to 'do the right thing' in the end as he'd suffered major heart failure 7wks earlier. With a lot of help from our vet at the time and 5 tablets a day, we managed to get another 7wks with him which were lovely but oh so sad times.

The loss still brings me tears now. We'd rescued him some 8yrs previous and in that time we'd given him a loving and wonderful time until he passed at approx 12yrs old.

We have said we won't have another dog for some years now as losing them is such a traumatic event to deal with.

So sorry to hear about your loss. He looked like a fine fella who will leave a big hole. It's hard when we have to let them go. Remember the good times & the love you shared. Best wishes

Rickrob, so sorry to hear of the loss of a clearly much loved & cared for pet.

Old cliché, but time is genuinely a great healer.

Tony

So sorry. He was a handsome boy and you can see he was loved and looked after.
Takes ages to get over the loss of a much loved member of the family. Hugs.
