Z9!

I didn't like the E89 at all when it was launched. But it's really grown on me, I do think it's a lovely looking car now... but it's a different car to the 85/86...

Just scroll up a little and compare breaker's avatar to Taz's sig pic. The E86 has more character, has more of a 'classic' look to it, harks back to the 'proper' sports cars of the late 50s/early 60s (e-type, db5/6, triumph spitfire etc.) which is where my heart lies (honestly, if I were a richer man, I'd shop in my beloved Z for an e-type to play with in a heartbeat!). This is, of course, all in my opinion.

Also compare the E92 to the whatever-the-smeg-it-is-now. The old 3 series is a beautiful car... the new one is dog ugly and not in that "it'll grown on you and soon you'll love it" way... it's just horrid! 5 series not as bad, but still no where near the yumminess of the last one and I won't even bother with the x-series ;)
 
I like the new Z4, but think it is a totally different concept to the origianl.

The old Z4 is quite raw and honest - simple infact.
Whereas the new Z4 is much more refined and you are cosseted in more luxry and higher build quality with more advanced technology for sure.

In a way I wish they kept making the Z4 and bought out the new Z4 with a Z5 badge instead.
I think the are very different cars and could co-exist with different markets.

I suppose I'm sad to think that they have stopped making a car I love to drive and would buy a 'new' version of it in the future to replace it.
But I am not so sure I would want to give the impression that would be given off if I drove the new Z4 version, which somehow seems more 'showy' and 'opulent'.
More like a luxury sport, than a sport.

Maybe I'm alone on these thoughts?

I agree. I think the E89 could have easily carried another badge than Z4, it's that different looks wise and to drive.

I have to disagree, the Z3 was a raw sports car, basically a skateboard with an engine. The Z4 was soft and weak looking in comparison although much better in power and driveability .

Breaker: I agree the new E89 looks meaner, I noticed the sharklike appearance from the front immediately and I love it. Now I need to see it with blacked out grills. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
 
mcbee, I don't think you could ever call the original Z4 weak looking - come come :-). I think it has an awful lot of character that has been lost in the new design direction.

I do like the new design a lot though and would graduate up to this kind of car later in my life perhaps, I just think it's a very different car for a different market.
Maybe I just love my Z too much. But for what I am looking for at the moment, I am not interested in the new models.

But if I could buy a brand new car with the same styling as my current motor - then I would do that next. This is my point. There are not many 10 year old designs you can say that about. Somehow the original Z4 is timeless and still turns heads. it was for sure way ahead of it's time. Infact I didn't like it when it first came out.
 
I didn't like it either but as time goes by I'm actually thinking of getting an older Z4 for my place down south so I don't have to deal with "the Cursed Rental Car" any more. :rofl: I still like the Z3 looks more but they are getting a little long in the tooth now so reliability may be an issue.....

Hmmm, coupe or roadster ??? I like the coupe..... but it has to be a roadster in Arizona.....A Z8 would be slick but that's way out of the price range... :D :D
 
BMW should stop being such a pussy about turbocharging big engines and stick two ball-bearing Garretts on the M6 and M5 engine to give audi R8 a decent whoop ass :D
