i personally think the 85 z4 coupe is the best looking, the e89 really doesnt do anything for me, although id like the 3.5 in the e 85

The thing I love about the E85 Z4 is the angular lines on it, it looks muscular and lithe but purposeful at the same time. In contrast, the new Z4 doesn't work for me at all and I really dislike the shape quite strongly.
I've a feeling I didn't like the Z4's shape when it was released though, I think I preferred the Z3 at first (especially the Coupe).
It'll be interesting to see how I feel about the new Z4 in a few years time and whether the shape grows on me like the E85 did.

Interesting, I loved the Z3 Roadster and disliked the Z3 coupe, thought it looked like a mini sportshearse. Didn't like the Z4 at all, thought it was "too soft" looking. I always thought the Z8 was a good copy of the old Etype lines. ..... It's all in the eye of the beholder I guess....

For me the Z8 was always very similar to the old BMW 503/507, as per: http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2006/11/21-bmw-507-and-503/
The 503/507 for me is probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made, certainly up there with the DB5, E-Type, 250 GTO etc. But, despite the Z8 looking a lot like the 503/507 I think the Z4 is a more interesting looking 'homage' to it... all very subjective and definitely in the eye of the beholder as you say!

That is stunning that really would give the others something to worry about , ..... wipe thoses smile off the R8 drivers!!
Agreed, the X1 is a truly awful looking thing,the 5 GT is laughable,the X6 is a mess and also pointless,the new 5 is smart but boring and the latest Z has lost it's character. I worry that since Bangle has departed,BMW are trying to go in the 100% opposite direction with design and will build really BORING cars.Lets leave that up to Toyota. 
Well I for one loved my 3.0si Coupe. Fantastic looking car!
But.
Last week one came into our car park at work (forgot to get a pic!) the same colour as my old one and parked next to my E89. Compared to the E89 it looked sort of "weak"! Didn't realise how much meaner the E89 looks from the front compared to the 1st gen models!! I for one like both designs, but I'm very pleased I have the one I have now!
