Z4MC to V8 vantage. Anyone done it?

Has anyone gone from a ZMC to an aston V8 vantage or have any experience of them. If so, how did I compare? Are running costs massively more expensive than the M? Also, what's the reliability like? I'll be doing about 8k a year in it.

Been keeping my eye on the prices of these and it looks like you can pick one up for about 30k these days

I know someone in the TVR car club who did it, he didn't have his zed that long but when he got his Aston he loved it loads & he still has it now & he is well happy with it, sorry I can't help with comparative running costs but in my opinion the vantage is certainly a very desirable car so it gets a  from me :)

One of the M coupe owners did a few years ago 'beast'? Or something like that - might be worth doing a search and sending him a PM/Email

Not as reliable and servicing is more expensive with no notable performance gain but a lovely motor and prestigious badge. Unfortunately it has cayman syndrome where it is held back because of model designation.

There are a lot of horror stories online, but whether they are true I don't know.

The chap that sold me my MC replaced it with a AMV8, and had to buy a new steering rack within 6 months at just over €7k

I owned a vantage v8 for about 5 months that I was going to import from the UK..

There were a lot of factors that made it feel a stronger performance compared to the M than it was. The general feel, the sound, the no fuss handling. I'd expect it to pull away from the M eventually, so I wouldn't say here was 'no notable performance increase'. That said a fettled M wouldn't have big issues..

Cost wise, with lighter use the Aston didn't paper out to be significantly more expensive than the M, same with the ferrari really if you use indipendent specialists, but like the last post, if they do go wrong outside of routine servicing though, they WILL cost!

wait till they release the new one....see how much the old ones value falls...
about a year ago i was sorely tempted to get in one...
but while they are cheaper to buy/run than a 360...the 360 seems to hold more value, so the depreciation of the vantage while you own it may be more than the added cost of 360 ownership...

Be really careful with these, the servicing bills are horrendous once they start to age. I'd go research warranty costs plus local to you dealers and indies. Also do what you'd recommend a potential new zed owner to do, find their friendly forum and ask questions. I'd imagine the AM gang to be fairly friendly

when i was desperate to get in one i searched and searched for a decent AM forum...
seemed like the only decent ones were ones for general sports/supercars

think one was sixspeedonline.com and another which i cant remember....
there was even someone who didnt have grankids on there :o :o

Head over to the PH Aston board - they're a friendly and helpful bunch.

Most say the Vantage engine is pretty much bulletproof. However, there are the usual Aston quirks and expect the clutch to fail at some stage which will be a circa £2.5k oem replacement at an indy or more for an improved aftermarket one.

Servicing is annual, not variable mileage. However, at the age you'd be buying with £30k, it would be sensible to find a reputable indy to maintain it saving you fair amount of cash.

They look and sound fantastic, but I don't feel there is a huge performance improvement over the Z4MC - but, for me, that's not what the Saton's about. I'm not an owner, just a potential future owner that has done a fair amount of research...

Simmer went from a ZMR to a new vantage, servicing was expensive and there were a few niggles I remember. Strangest oddment I found was that he had to change navigation DVDs when going to France as they are on separate disks.

Now thats not very Q branch is it...

I've toyed with the idea of one of these in Roadster form but have so far resisted ...

V8 Vantage isnt up,

But the Z4M is a quick car look at the top gear lap times

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mj59/features/powerlaps

From this I would assume its faster with the comp around it.

Given that that it beat an M3 CSL by 2 seconds, and a 911GT3 by 1.2, either Stiggy has been having some off days or we should take those lap times with a pinch of salt!
