Z4mC ruby black , CSLs , sat nav , 35k £15950

Crikey, give the guy a break! The glass is half full guys, not half full of p*ss :!:
Surely worth that or thereabouts to somebody out there.

Dream red wasn't optional on ///M cars. Neither were grey door cards (AFAIK).

The seats don't have stitching on the bolsters so are definitely ///M seats.

The price is spot on for the spec and mileage, unfortunately the condition isn't - something needs to give. There is probably £750 - £1000's worth of work but as a new buyer it will be your baby and you will not want to take it on in my opinion. Get the work done and get your finance figure.

Tapatalking on my iPad.......

I think at £1000 less it will sell no problem.

Or fix the problems and put it at £15,500

It is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

I recently (August) bought a Z4MC via the forum. I live in Shetland so my initial research was all done at long range. I investigated 3 cars in all with similar mileage to yours. The first was withdrawn from the market and I was too slow with the second, bought the third. All the owners were very helpful when I requested photos and copies of paperwork.

I looked at yours but did not put it on my initial short list although it was closer to home than the others. I wanted a standard car with the ability to have BMW warranty and although the Eibach springs may be an improvement it wasnt a plus for me. I also felt that there was a contradiction between your love of detailing per the advert and the kerbed wheels and upholstery damage. You also said that there was no hurry to sell but apparently no time to get wheels fixed. Probably minor but enough for me to look elsewhere first.

I think that the market has dropped quite a bit in the last few months, when I first started looking in June dealers and independents were looking for £20k+ in some cases, none like that now. I immagine that sports cars are less saleable at this time of year so that £15k ish is now realistic for an immaculate low mileage car. Waiting till Spring would seem more likely to see a further drop as I dont see the economy improving much if at all for a while. At the end of the day a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

This one has been reduced by 2k

The white 58 plate ebay car "sold" for £13,000

Others have been on pistonheads for months.

The market is slow and insurance and petrol costs have reduced the prices of lots of sports cars. Even the fabled E30M3s have taken a hit.

The ones I have seen at main dealers/ Arthur Dailey dealers and private cars have had issues...
Alloys/worn tyres/due service/seat leather/front "splitter" scratches/excessive owners etc etc.
That is not a problem but a reduction in the price is necessary as there are so many to choose from

Points taken on board , thanks .

To answer a few ,

It's Imola red seats , surely no one is questioning the authenticity of the seats ? Anyone in the know should know this , however I understand perspective buyers may not .

I am a keen detailer , believe me the kerbed alloys are killing me and caused a massive argument with the Mrs :D when I said I didn't have the time to sort I meant I literally don't have the time due to work commitments and hassle of getting to dealer etc ..I won't let anyone else do the wheels too many cowboys around at least with dealer ill have a comeback.

Alloy repair should cost £ 100
1 small ding removal £ 40
Upholstery repair ????

I would rather actually repair the bolster rather than mask it but not sure how difficult this is for colour match etc ? Any info ?

Problem is ...when all work is done .....I won't want to sell :driving:

Could cancel the warranty at almost £100 per month , but though this would be a major selling factor , as far as I'm aware the new owner can continue this with BMW ? I can't see any other cars on pistonheads offer this , shouldn't that be a good selling point or is it fairly easy to gain a BMW warranty from scratch ?

Jamie

I must have missed something in your advertisement photos that everyone else can see...
You're selling a second hand car and it has minor kerbing on a wheel or two, and a ding which isn't visible on my iPhone. Big deal - these are very easy and cheap to rectify.
The seat may be a sticking point for some, but I really do think that the finance is the real problem for many prospective buyers.

Me too , I didn't think the damage was that big a deal ...someone mentioned 1k to fix !

Looking like ill need to spend some time and money on it then ..

Sorry Jamie because I started the seat thing - I understand that only Imola seats came with the M but, based on the photos, I was open to the possibility that the seats and door cards had been swapped out at some point, which to me would explain what I would say is excessive bolster wear for the mileage.

I think I would definitely get the bolster seen to, and a quick refurb done on the kerbing etc.

And don't take the comments to heart too much, if you ask for opinions...but I dont think it will do your sale any harm, as these are the questions most buyers would want an answer to anyway.

As andysat would say, GLWTS

Death by a thousand cuts I'm afraid for me.

No one small thing is insurmountable but add them all together & you get a car that puts the punters off.

Damaged wheels
None original wheels
None original suspension
Damaged seat
Finance outstanding
Remote location
Warranty not paid for

The positives dont outweigh the negatives

Lowish miles
Good colour combo
Csl wheels
No rusty springs
Warranty

Yes it's a nice colour combo but there have been others for sale similar, Csl wheels will attract some buyers but I suspect any none enthusiast will just wonder why they were changed, same with the springs. Your average punter (& out of the three people who contacted me about mine over the phone two knew nothing of this forum) will look at it from my top list & move on, they know nothing of rusty springs & & Csl light alloy wheels.

I've got to be honest, without sounding off I'd never try & sell a low mileage car showing bolster wear like that, some things just need sorting out.

Either bite the bullet & take a loss (cars do depreciate remember) or fix the problems & re-word the ad focussing on its low mileage, history & BMW warranty.

I can't picture the ding as its so minor ...but I've always been honest with perspective buyers and made them aware of it .

Not taking anything to heart..I asked for opinion that's what I got , I have the answers I need now and can make a decision on what to do now.

Yeah I agree , good post . I've been looking for an easy sale when I should have really looked at it from a buyers perspective more .

No such thing as an easy sale these days, not with £500 a year to tax old bmw's anyway.

It's either hard sells or cheap sales, if you want top price you'll have to put the work in. I've got to be honest it all depends on your situation which one you want, but if it were me (which it obviously isn't) I'd get rid of the warranty, fix the seat (£75?) & both alloys (£60 for both from a chips guy) & get the grills back to standard. Only mention the springs if someone asks about broken ones & get the service history written up.

It's very admirable putting up pictures & mentioning the faults but I reckon all you've done is put people off, fair play you've got to tell them (it's an old car, there will be little faults) but at least let them get passed the hard part of picking up the phone of even making a visit/getting an inspection.

If its a great genuine car, there's a good chance they'll see past the little niggles like you have & you can always barter with them to take it into consideration.

Far simpler to just pay £150 & get the faults seen to though...

+1, why do people always expect a second-hand car to be in brand new condition?

They don't but don't want to pay top price for one that isn't in top condition
