But the problem on holding out for the asking price is the cost of the monthly HP and BMW warranty on a car that's just sitting on the driveway

£100's each month swallowed up, which could bring the final sold price down by £1000 - £2000

No such thing as an easy sale these days, not with £500 a year to tax old bmw's anyway.

Only mention the springs if someone asks about broken ones

It's very admirable putting up pictures & mentioning the faults but I reckon all you've done is put people off, fair play you've got to tell them (it's an old car, there will be little faults) but at least let them get passed the hard part of picking up the phone of even making a visit/getting an inspection.

I think that this approach could lead to buyer and seller wasting a lot of time. I would not proceed with a purchase where I found that significant issues were not disclosed up front and I suspect that for this niche enthusiasts market any problem will be considered significant by many buyers.

Of course these are used cars, several years old, so none will be perfect and the buyer has to decide what is important to them. For me doing the initial research at long range I didnt want to spend a lot going to look at cars only to find problems I had not been aware of.

Also I would not be impressed to find my insurance invalid because the car was modified and I didnt know. Insurance companies look for any reason not to pay out these days and ignorance is not accepted as an excuse. I also wonder if the seller may be open to a legal claim if mods were not declared and a major claim arose down the line.

For a start I'd stop the warranty.

Hmmm , considering cancelling the warranty . I know it's been debated to death but any quick thoughts ?

Has there many reports of major failures ie gearbox , engine ?

I have a few independents nearby that come recommended ...

I don't use the car as much so I'm saving around £120 a month on fuel ( usually £60 per week ) and deducting the £90 per month for warranty would certainly help and make keeping it feesable , just . Then come spring next year I could carry out all repairs , enjoy it for a few months then get rid of for hopefully a decent price ( how much more can they fall ! ) and in that time probably cleared a few k on the finance .

sounds like sense to me for the forseeable :| gains you some time & the finance pay off should exceed value fall ?
high end car prices will only tighten as xmas approaches with the usual formula applying - sports cars down / 4x4's up :?
