Don't think I've ever asked/looked at the number of owners why buying a car - it's always done on condition & value for money.

If it's had 10 owners and is the best one on the market at the same price as a 1 owner scabby car, then it's the 10 owner one that'll be getting my money.

Back to the car, I 've just checked the V5 again and its only had 2 owners not 3. D'oh!

First was BMW, then a chap owned it for 11k miles, then me.

This is to my own detriment, but if I see a car advertised with a high number of owners for the age I tend to shy away. But, if I saw the same car and it looked and drove right and then I found out the number of owners I'd probably be okay with it. A failing on my part I know.

Anyway, back to my original suggestion... just had a look on BMW AUC search, there are a couple CSLs on there with under 40k on the clock at around £30k. May be worth a call. Not sure if they have back seats though - not on the options list.

They all have back 'seats' - it's just that the seats are more pieces of cushioning on a pre-formed plastic base rather than the normal seat base & seat back arrangement - plus it's a 4-seater.

There's also no arm-rests: where your arm would normally rest on the door the carbon fibre is shaped differently (possibly to stop you damaging it by leaning on it).

There's an option for an Isofix fitting, but I don't know how much it'd be to retrofit that if it doesn't have it.

That makes all the difference to have in effect 2 owners rather then the 4 which was previously mentioned. I too would never look at a car if it had too many owners, and 4 would be certainly the case as my thoughts would be that all of them found something wrong and off loaded it straight away.

It may not be you who's misinformed as it could be one of those options that everyone ticks and thus makes it almost 'standard'.

Every one I went to see had them (just like a stereo, air-con & xenons - although one had a Sony MD player). If it hasn't got a stereo (even a basic one) then don't bother fitting one as the factory didn't put any wiring in unless it was needed for a factory-fit.

I did find this 'spec list' on the CSL register though:

Ahh how lovely is that! Thanks :oops: And you're 'not bad' yourself :wink:


And as tempting as it is i can't really be changing cars at the minute as i may have a couple of things in the pipeline which require my attention and bank account...

The 'Ring is not normally a track day (it can be, but most people only do the Touristenfahrten) and it's a public toll road, just like the autobahn and you'll actually go faster on the autobahn than on the 'Ring. Even the track day insurance companies agree as they will only cover you on the 'Ring during a closed/private event - their argument being that during the Touristenfahrten it's a public road and therefore covered by your road policy. However the road policy insurers take the opposite view and treat it as a race track :headbang:

Although some people just buy the sticker online and never go to the 'Ring (like all those Astra VXR Nürburgring Editions).

I personally find the 'Ring to be more like a mid-Wales A road blast rather than a track (albeit without the two-way traffic), but can understand some less enlightened potential purchasers not realising this and treating it as a £50 magazine 'run what you brung' event.
