Z4M vs sDrive 35i

IMO totally different car that will attract totally differenct buyers due to the difference in price.

That said, good as the Z4M is I'd take the newer car from both a residual and style perspective. The lump in the 35i will also offer massive potential as far as tuning is concerned with some of these tuned 335is wiping the floor with the E92 V8 M3 lump.

As said above, totally differenct cars appealing to totally different markets.

I think 'wiping the floor' is over the top. But agree its tunning potential is huge, obviously though its early days for reliability on the tuned lumps.

I'd take an SLK55 over the 35i if cash wasn't too much of an object, auto 'box or not. It only needs a couple of gears anyway with that V8 up front :)

Other than that I'd take one of the last Z4M roadsters out there, but you'll be extremely limited to colour and spec.

I would definatly buy a E85 M over any of the other cars mentioned in this thread.

Oh wait I did!!

I am really happy with my car.

It's fast it handles well.

I can drive it like a mad man or like an old lady going to the grocery and it is just as happy either way.

I've found a pre-reg on an 09 plate Z4M Roadster with only 8 miles on it. It seems to have a lot of kit on it (although I don't know BMW specifications very well). Alpine White (defiantly one of my favourite colours.

I can get it for £39,950 - opinions?

Too pricey! :o

You will loose a load off that once the new one is out and about also! See if you can get it down to a more realistic (if you really want one that is) £31,000.

Sums up my feeling and situation as well... :driving:

Thanks for that - I thought it might be a tad much. Unfortunately for me (I am almost set on the M now rather than the new one), there isn't a lot on the market at the moment. Although the more I look into it the more I'm tempted to get one 2 or 3 years old, chop the Discovery in as well and get something a little bit more lively for use during the week as well (M5 Touring, RS6 etc).

Argh, this is getting complicated! :(

Go down and see if you can do a deal with the dealer of the white one. It would be nice to get an almost new one as they would be getting rare now.

You should be able to get a good deal on the new one. I ndecember my local dealer offered new //M for £36 with all imaginable specs. Unfortunately it was way over my budget and also i dont buy new cars because of their depreciation. got a nice 2yr old for just over 21k. Good luck with ur search.

That one on Pistonheads looks like a nice car.Buy that, then chop in the disco for an RS6. You'll be one happy bunny......... :driving:

have driven both the s2k and the z4 3.0i and there are SOME difference.

-highway the s2k is annoying
-change the final drive on the s2k and a wheel alignment with a bit more camber in the rear and the accel and handling feels much better then the z4 (not m)
-z4 is pretty set so not much more mods can be done unless big bucks are spent. Whereas, a full fluid change in the s2k will feel very different

yes i drive the z4 and i like the z4 more then the s2k. But facts are facts

Why do you even compare them? They are completely different cars.

It's not that I'm compairing them as such. I have the S2000 at the moment and am looking to buy a more "grown up" version of the same car. As good as the S2000 is it's getting a little bit boring now.

So I started looking at the Z4M Roadster without realising that there was a brand new Z4 coming out. I have always purchased new cars so the sDrive 35i was the nearest BMW product to the "old" Z4M. So like I said, not really compairing the car, just looking at whats avaliable in the market I am looking at.

The tuning potential of the 35i engine is huge! Just been reading Mays edition of BMW Magazine where there is a review of a 135i convertible which has been tweaked. Power has increased to 374bhp with 410lb torque! Cost £795 + VAT, by a company called DMS automotive. (this is not a plug btw)

Certainly something to bear in mind if anyone is considering the sDrive35i model.

Turbo engines just aren`t the same as normal aspiration, can`t beat a good normally aspirated engine IMO, none of that turbo lag malarky and unpredictability mid-corner.

I`m sure a 335 kicking out 374bhp will have a much shortened lifespan.

isnt the new 35i a twin trubo designed to remove/reduce turbo lag?

I agree though that they just aint the same...
